History
First jeep since dad had a 46 Willy's back in the 60's for the family ranch and hunting trips. Needed for ranch in trans-pecos region of west texas. Needed clearance for climbing rocks on steep mountain trails. SOA looked like the answer. Right off the bat, breaking u-joints every attempt! Installed Advanced Adapters SYE and Tom Woods custom CV drive shaft. Great! No more broken u-joints or drive shaft problems.
Next realized the River Rat will need lockers and probably a swap from the Dana 35 rear axle to a Dana 44 or heavier to haul the load we carry. Also feel the SOA leaf springs are to "Flat" and need to upgrade there also. The Rat starts and runs great, but dies when going "down" the rocky jeep trail back to camp (so far taking the Oil Field Rd. through cousins place on the way up the mountain).
The Pecos River River Rat and I could use some informative help on the above situations. Any jeepers out there have any suggestions?
