05 LJ 4" lift 35s, 42LRE trans stock 3.73s for now
I am going to jump up to 4.88s and was curious if I had to change the carriers on the 30 and 44. I'm trying to do a cost analysis of gear change to axle swap. I already have a HP44 housing from a Ford 3/4 ton and a 9" from a Ford fullsize truck. I know it is going to be more to do an axle swap but will it be cost effective to do a gear change on my current axles only to replace them? I'm looking for opinions and suggestions so please be brutally honest.

5.13 all the way with 35's. The 44 carrier will need to be swapped or run with a thick gear if available. The 30 carrier will work. If you do swap axles, go lower than 5.13. Think something like 5.38 or thereabouts.
