'05 Rubi TJ with 2.5" OME leveling lift kit (shocks, coils, stabilizer) currently running LT245/75/R16 Cooper Discoverer AT3s, load range E on stock 16" Moab wheels. Shocks are heavy as I have a winch and aftermarket bumper on the front of the jeep and a Garvin Wilderness roof rack that I usually load up with about 100# when I go out.

Plan on going to 265/75/R16s with bump stop extensions on the front, adding a washer to steering stops so they don't rub at full lock. Also have BMB pads and Centric rotors on the way.​

Use case

95% of the time on the streets and highway, it's my daily driver. When I do wheel weekends I don't do any rock crawling, but do go up some pretty steep inclines on tight trails to get to my favorite fishing holes, camping spots, one in particular. Terrain here in western Nevada is pretty rocky on the trails, thus the load range E's which I'd prefer to stick with. With the weight and the trails, currently run the AT3s at 28#.

Do want, need tires that are good on packed snow and ice as well as do from time to time go up top over the Pacific Crest on I-80 to the left coast and have had two incidents where I'm dodging a yahoo losing it in the snow where they're spinning around clockwise as they slide from left to right in front of me across the highway as I maneuver around them to my left. Happens more and more here in town in the winter as well with people driving too fast.​

Many searches here on WF, searches, ratings and reviews on Tire Rack later I've settled on either the newer Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLTs or the General Grabber ATXs. Current AT3s are running short, I'm only going to get a little over half of the 55,000 miles they're warrantied for so will get a prorated price on new tires from Discount Tire when I get 5/32" tread soon and get new tires.

Thoughts, recommendations, advice appreciated in advance.

The AT3s get a lot of love here on the forum, so if you liked your current AT3s I'd say just go Cooper again. Grabbers seem very mixed, review wise... Plus the AT3 XLTs look better, IMO.

You might look into the ST Maxx...

Interestingly enough, more reading, multiple visits talking to a couple of different individuals at Discount Tire, I ended up going with the Goodyear Ultra Terrains in an LT265/75/R16. Best commentary I actually found was an eighteen page thread on Tacoma World with guys talking about their "tacos."

Same shell as the Duratracs, but lugs and tread they're definitely going after the KO2s with this tire. Love 'em so far, will be interested to see how they do on packed snow and ice this winter, how well the tread holds up over time.

Looks like an interesting choice. Good amount of siping and deep channels so should do pretty well in the winter. I am excited for winter as well for my new Falken A/T3Ws....
