I'm helping a buddy out that has a 05' TJ that he's having an issue.

PROBLEM:

1. When turning the key, the Jeep doesn't try to start.
2. When the key is turned and the lights and radio are on, they don't die. The continue working as normal while trying to start it.

THINGS WE HAVE DONE:

1. Replaced, ignition switch and Ignition Switch Actuator Pin.
*** The metal around the Ignition Switch Actuator Pin was broken.
2. Replaced Neutral Safety Switch - suggested by local parts dealer.
3. ** I haven't done this but another friend that's a mechanic helped with this** Tested the starter and solenoid - both were working.

MY QUESTION:

1. Could the crankshaft position sensor cause the above issue?
2. Any other suggestions?

The Crank Position Sensor will defiantly cause a no start like you are describing.

I am not certain how to get the codes from the “computer” on an 05, but is she throwing any codes?

That is all I can think of right now though…

Let us know pal.

No I actually hooked my computer up to it to see if there were any codes and there wasn't.

Going to try the Crank Position Sensor and I'll keep you posted.

Not to get your post side tracked but: How did you hook up your computer? I have the VAG-Com for when I had my V-Dub. I was hopping for something like that for my Jeep!

OK - back on topic!

Sorry for the confusion, not an actual computer, I used the OBD2 Diag tool.

HERE

What VW did you have? I have a 08 GTI also...

Now I'm sidetracking my own thread. :whistling:

OK my friend got frustrated and didn't want to work on the Jeep himself any longer so he took it to a local shop. He said that the mechanic told him it was an issue with the starting circuit, but now it's running again.

That's funny pal!

I had a 2000 Jetta with the Two-Point-Slow! I lowered her 1.5". People would lose me on the straights, but I got them in the corners!

Glad to hear your Jeep is back on the street.
