Alright, well iv been searching and searching and reading different 1 ton/ and 3/4 ton swap threads. And i have a few questions. I plan on keeping my 39's and I'm running a 351w and c6 auto tranny. Not sure on transfer case haven't looked yet, as i just got the jeep. It has 39's on stock axles and its lifted with soa and shackles. Im 6'5 and the floor is a little above my waste. So anyway, i plan on going to 1 tons. The HP dana 60 out of the 78-79 fords seem to be the easiest if I'm not mistaking. Now for my questions.

-Should i stretch it (front and rear) with waggy springs?

-Am i going to have to shorten the axle? Or can i leave it and move perches? or will it match up?

-I can't find a thread on the steering set ups for these axles. What will need to be done or is there a thread going over steering with this?

Those are the questions I have right now on the front. Now the rear, id prefer to have a driver side drop like i do now, and if I'm correct the 14 bolt isn't a driver side drop. So should i just go with a matching dana 60? And like above stretch it with waggy springs.

If anyone can answer these or know of a good write up on this swap that would be great. Iv been searching for something thats matching around what I'm going to run. Thank you.

or is there a better axle swap for my plans, it will be used for a little bit of everything. Mud, trails, crawling, weekend cruising.

and i read all 85 pages of your thread, and I'm amazed, love your work. My girlfriends grandpa lives in st. charles, and if we make a trip out there, maybe we can try and go wheel or just meet up.

D60 hp front, 14 bolt rear. Sterling axle for the back is a good choice also, just the later sterling axles have a not so popular bolt pattern

now with the 14 bolt rear requires a transfer case swap correct? which may not be a bad idea. What transfer case would you recommend if i went with the 14 bolt?

Not without moving the springs outside of frame.

I'm about 120 miles from the city but if your ever this way lemme know!
So is there a different years that are easier? ill have to go look at your build again and see if i can find when you did your rear axle. sorry maybe a dumb question, but what do you mean by moving the springs outside of the frame? From the looks of what i saw, it looked like you mounted the springs in the stock location. I may just buy one and go with it. Im a welder, i can figure something out haha. Just new to axle swaps and still doing research.

And i definatly will let you know if we go out that way.

Yes there are two different spring pin width ford 60s. The 78-79 are within a 1/2 inch of the stock jeep one but the 85-91s are 3 inches wider. I used a 79 one. Out boarding springs means you love the mounts from under the frame to the outside. The tcase doesn't care what rearend is in it.

yeah i know about the 60, and the tcase matters where the pumpkin is on the axle correct? and is there anyway you can take pics of how you moved the mounts, if not that fine, ill try and find something or just figure it out myself.

Yes, his are under the frame because he used an axle from a 79.

You can use any transfercase as far as the rear axle is concerned, you either alter the driveline, use conversion u joints or swap either the axle yoke or slip yoke to make things work. For the front yo want to decide what transfercase and axle you want to use.
Say if you want deeper gearing than 5.38. You would want to look for a Chevy D60
Those you can gear to 5.86:1, then you would want a passenger drop transfercase.
Lots a choices, lots a different routes to go

i feel so stupid right now. i know to use a 78-79 lol. i thought we were talking about having to outboard the sterling.

i have a slip yoke, on my transfer case now. and i like the idea of a hp 60 (out of a 78-79) lol and from what I'm reading, a sterling 10.25. Which is what i asked about the years for . 85-92.

What axles are you running?
The front axle on this one is a later kingpin Ford axle so the springs are outboarded. In the rear the spring perches got cut of the axle and new ones welded on and we used the stock front spring hanger.
In the front I cut all the stock stuff of and made new outboarded spring hangers.
Took me about 14 hours to get both axles in there all perches, hangers, front and rear bumpers welded, shackles made and shock mounts figured out and welded in.
Setting up a YJ with 1 tons is pretty easy and straight forward.

thanks a lot, I'm good with fabrication work, its what i do . but i just like to have the basic plan figured out before i jump into something. Im not a mechanic by any means, but i tend to be alright with figuring stuff out. just haven't dont anything with driveline other then motors.
