Looking for feedback from those of you with the Premium Soft Top....

Highway noise, ease of cleaning, ease of putting on/taking off, etc...

I might be buying one (brand new off a 2014 with all hardware for $700) but would like some feedback first.

Not looking for feedback from those with a "regular" softtop pre 2013....thanks!!

Just finished our first summer with the premium top. Overall it's really nice but it is hard to install the first time around until the fabric stretches. To even open or close it takes a lot of work since the fit is so tight and the fabric is thick -- so does not stretch all that well.

Now that it is broken, looks great, fairly quiet on the highway, totally waterproof. I would recommend it.

I bought a new 2013 premimum soft top that came from the dual top package. It is almost as quiet as the hard top. It is easy to put on but a bearcat to get it latched at the front header the first couple of times you do it. It was easy to take off completely to put the hardtop back on. I is pretty bulky when folding it back to drive around with the top down. All and all it is nice but if I could only have one top it would be a hard top. Windows scratch very easy and it takes some practice to actually get it on correctly.

My experience greatly varies from the others. I find it actually EASIER to latch at the header and to fold down and up than my friends with the vinyl top. It is also MUCH quieter than the vinyl top. I love it.

I never had the vinyl top, so cannot compare. I have the dual top group, so my install was the first for the top. I expect that soft tops installed at the factory would be easier to deal with since they come installed and stretched.

Even with a little bit of aggravation, I definitely like it and was sad to put on the hard top for winter yesterday.

I have the premium top now, had run a non-premium top for a few weeks, a Trektop NX and a hard top.

Love the Premium top for looks and functionality. Noise is not an issue, HOWEVER, I rarely have the top up or not in the sunrider position.

For that reason, I can't give an honest comparison of road noise between the premium or hard top since I don't remember what the noise level was with the hard top (has been off since April). I can say that when I do have the top up, I'm not bothered by noise.

I do get concerned with brush/limbs possibly snagging the top where I didn't worry so much about that with the non-premium top. I also like the interior black color of the premium top vs. the grayish finish interior of the non-premium. Funny though, I installed a spiderweb shade and now don't see the inside of the top at all.

If I were in the market to buy a soft top today, I wouldn't settle for anything less than the premium soft top.

I have a 2013 JKU that I got two months ago and it has the premium top. This is my first Jeep so dealing with the convertible top was new to me, I don't have any problems folding down and putting up the top by myself. I usually drive with top down and all windows left at home, it takes me two minutes to untie and latch down the top most of the time is spent walking around the other side of the Jeep, it does help that I have rock rails to stand on. I can unlatch, fold the roof and strap down the top (without windows) in under 60 seconds easily.

As far as highway noise with all the windows zipped in.... I can use the BT for a phone call and nobody has ever complained about noise when I am driving down the highway but I have no idea of what they do hear. The stock non amp radio can transmit the phone call loud enough for me to hear the person calling me and the stock radio is not that loud to begin with.

I would agree the JKU premium top removed from the Jeep is bulky, somewhat heavy and takes up some space in the garage. But it is easy to remove with only four small bolts and can be taken off with only one person (two people makes the job seriously easier and non cumbersome).

Solid price! Highly recommend it! Switched back to hard top for a road trip and totally miss the feature of instant sunrider!

I've got a 2013 with the dual tops. Yes, running with the premium soft top is loud. You'll hear everything outside as if you've got the windows rolled down. Even just starting it up while in the garage, makes me looks to see if I've got a window down. A little bit quieter with the hard top on.

Had both. The new 'premium' top is much better than the older style IMO. Quieter and easier to deal with both removing and putting back up.

I've had experience with hard top, vinyl soft top and now the premium soft top on different jeeps. I've had my 14 JKUR for a weeks now with the premium top and I love it. Quieter then the vinyl for sure and imo almost as good as the hard top. Haven't had issues with the header like others have stated.

I had limited experience with a vinyl soft top on my uncle's TJ and in comparison the premium soft top on my 2013 JKU is a vast improvement, though you will experience noise "bleed-through" that you can expect with any convertible top.

If the premium soft top you buy is still new in it's factory shipped packaging it is easiest to install for the first time if you loosely latch the header (hooked to footman loops, not fully clipped) and then pull the back of the top down to clip the sailcloth into the body at the corners. And of course leave it out in the sun prior to attempting to stretch it out.

As far as putting it up and down, I haven't had a problem doing this solo, though I do have side steps to make the reach easier.

Thank you all for your feedback, much appreciated!!! I will be purchasing the top tonight. I always thought the premium top and its "blacker" look would look great on a Cosmos Blue Wrangler. Now I just need some black MOAB wheels...

I have a hard top and also looking to just buy a basic sun-rider stype soft top as well for the fall/winter, as this is the "topless" season in AZ! Who makes the best one for around 500-600?

I had the Sailcloth on my TJ. when it got dirty is stained. The new twill material does not.
I love the sunrider feature, you can throw it back at a light.
Can't compare sound wise as I have only had soft tops.
But I can have a hands free conversation on the highway with no problems.


People have trouble with the header latching when putting the top back up, but I found if I lock the Sunrider latches in, then there's no trouble after that. If those aren't in then you're short at the header.

And this is for you 2012Cosmo! (even though its dirty)
