HEY! I totally forgot to do the build thread I intended to do. Now that I'm almost done I'll play catch up.

Hello all! I have lots of fabrication experience with hot rods, customs and motorcycles, but none with Jeeps. I've had a couple Wagoneers, but never a Wrangler, and I'm looking forward to beating the crap out of this YJ because I really don't like Wranglers.

It came with...

-4.0 I6
-Auto tranny with aftermarket cooler installed
-Full width Wagoneer axles front and rear. About 6" longer wheel base.
-Front axle Dana 44
-Rear axle Ford 9" bottom cut for more clearance
-4.88 gears
-ARB air locker in rear
-Warn hubs and Yukon axles.
-Full-size disc brakes all 4 corners.
-Rancho RS9000s
-High steer
-Double CV driveline front and rear
-Borla header with ca carb exemption.
-AFE cold air intake with ca carb exemption
-Brand new 37x12.50x 17 BFG km2 tires and spare.
-Brand new XRC front bumper
-Brand new Waterproof XRC 12000lbs winch (still need to wrap the syn. line)
-Brand new XRC rear bumper
-Brand new XRC tire rack swing out
-Tuffy Center Console
-Custom roll cage
-Front and rear rock lights
-Plus a bunch of extra junk I've pretty much sold all of (incl. a set of 38" Irok Swampers)
-111,000 miles
-About 21K on the replaced motor and trans
-So far everything works, runs and drives great

Paid $8.5k and feel like I did pretty good.

I'm not an Internet crybaby, so opinions are welcomed. :2thumbsup:

OK, since I picked it up I have been messing around on it and have...

-Added a step/nerf bar to the rocker slider.




-Cut off and built a new rear half of the cage. Painted over the silver metalflake. I also tied the cage to the frame in six places.







-Replaced the stock seats with Honda S2000 leather buckets. This meant cutting down the sock bases. The driver side was easy.







-The passenger side took a little more math because I still want it to fold forward, but needed to have it lower.

-The rear seat is from the rear row of a new Explorer. I just made simple mounts. One kid, so one seat. The other side of the back will be for cargo.

-When I removed the body lift the floor sat on the transfer case linkage. Lots of cutting and new panels made.





-Widened and moved the rear wheel openings up and back. Also added rear quarter armor.






-The front fenders got a similar treatment.

-Beefed up the 9" housing.





-Built a platform for the ARB twin compressor.





-Resprayed the bedliner in the tub.







-The TJ doors also got sprayed.

-I hate the YJ square headlights, (actually, square headlights on any car), so the front end was treated to a modified M38 grille and headlights.










-Added some lights for the nights.

-Tried to protect the pumpkins and joints. I'll be building a skid plate for the bottom of the 9" soon.





-Added a fold-down Molle panel to the tailgate.





-Modified and reinstalled the center console then mounted the CB inside.





-Padding for the cage.

-New tunes via a non-mech Kenwood deck, amp and speakers. The sub is a self-contained/amplified unit. The rear 6x9s are in the fender well cargo boxes.






-Fabbed a large opening and cover for access to the troublesome fuel pump.




-Switches for things that need switches. The red one will activate the soon-to-come trail brake. New rock lights are also on the short list.




-I turned the stock wheel carrier stop into a CB antenna mount.




-Made a quickie mount for the Hi-Lift that tucks it away behind the spare.





Oh, I also switched over to Bilsteins at the corners and the steering stabilizer.


Still to come:

-Rear anti-wrap bar.
-Trail brake.
-Seats installed
-Beat the crap out of it.

really nice looking ride.

any issues with the gas tank in the back with the waggy spring stretch?
How about the steering links in the front?

Thanks! No issues with the stock tank at all. The steering components are all aftermarket. Any specific concerns?

I'm soa with over the knuckle steering and thinking about going to waggy springs so just curious whether you had to do anything weird with the links or pitman arm after the stretch.

Round lights

Just ran across your post, great build!
I been doing a lot of similar things to a 87 YJ, but some of yours are setting me back to reconsider.
One thing I saw was your lowering of the seats, do you have any plans for that , or advice on how to?
I'll attach a pic of " Miss Inclined " to give you an idea of what's going on.
Lights are just mocked up right now, but they are 10".
