Hi,

So how has the wrangler prices changed over a 30 year period!? :)

Take look at the pictures. In 1983, the jeep had a msrp under $7,000.

The 3.31 axle ratio was a $36 option.

Hardtop with door was $801....makes today's price of $995 seem VERY reasonable.

I thought this may be interesting to a few of you...

$10k vs $30k.

Nah, no such thing as inflation, right? LOL

Yeah but you also have to add traction control, ABS, hill start, and a lot of other things that were not around then!
yeah, basicalyl the price of a Jeep has tripled in 30 years. However, there is a LOT more to a Jeep now than there was in 1983. ABS, AC, hill start, electornics, better interior, map lights!, airbags, so it isn't a direct compare. Its nice the see MPGs have improved about 15% even with, what I can imagine, is a much heavier vehicle with a lot more HP.
sounds about right... average household made roughly 21K in '83 and roughly 55K in 2013...
At the bottom of the sticker it shows $1.65 for a gallon of gas, those were the days.
Sorry, I'm still chucking at the 18 MPG for a CJ.
I was curious about some other cars as well so I checked. MSRP on a 1983 Porsche 911SC was $30,500. Today a base 991 Carrera is $85,000. Pretty much the same multiplier as the Jeep!
Jeep commercials have really changed since '83 too...

ROFL. I live the jingle at the end. Old car ads always crack me up.
Try to find a vehicle brand new for under $10,000 can't get one in the USA. And motorcycles ect don't count. Closest is like $11,000 and dealers don't even stock them.
^^ That is an epic commercial. Being born in '83 this is very cool to see. I mean if I saw that commercial today I would have to get one.

So if a CJ is like riding a buffalo, what is a JK?
If you use an inflation calculator it shows that $10,000 in 1983 is equivalent to $23,444.18 in 2013. So the price difference is significant, but not as large as it seems.

The saga of Buffalo-Man rode on into '84 also...

Great post! I love seeing carpet and a rear seat as options:)
I think its funny, mpg 18 back then. Same now.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I've only had two jeeps...an '83 CJ-7 and now a 2013 JKUR. Loved/love them both!
