Hi Everyone,

I recently bought this YJ from a local mechanic who picked it up at a local auction with a lot of rust issues. Being in the Mid-Atlantic, where they salt the roads more than it snows, it makes a lot of sense that Jeeps have rust issues here. That being said, the mechanic purchased this Jeep as a personal project and was shocked by the amount of rust that he uncovered after getting it under the wrench. He did a damn-fine job of replacing panels and rust-proofing the inside of the tub, but things got in the way and he decided to sell.

I was the lucky SOB to pick this low mileage 6 cylinder up with all the serious rust repaired and a used hardtop to boot. There are some issues that I am working out to get it inspected, titled, and registered in the state of Virginia, along with some other questions and concerns that have come up along the journey to Glorious Jeepdom that I would really like to bounce off you wonderful people.

For starters, I am having issues with the front driver side turn signal not flashing on and off but staying solid no matter the position of the headlight switch and hazards. I have replaced the relay (necessary because of other symptoms) and switched the bulbs between driver side and passenger, with the same results no matter the bulb. Now, the bulbs in the chmsl are out on both sides, and I will replace them once I get past the stripped screws, but I don't think this should affect the front driver side signal. What should I do? chase wires looking for inadvertent grounds?

I have a full door question coming up. Just purchased a set for $200 locally and they need some work.

All in all, I am young and have time. I bought this jeep to work on and keep me out of trouble. I have a background in carpentry, metalwork, professional (Basic) car maintenance, and a mechanical mindset that I waste daily at a 9-6 Database Management job. I just want to get back to working with my hand in my spare time and any input you guys can throw at me will greatly benefit my goals and will be eternally appreciated!

Its just poor connections at the grounds most likely. The body is the return circuit and since it was/is rusty your probably not getting good solid connections. Run new ground wires from the housings to the body and then make sure the body to frame and engine ground cables have good clean connections to each other and the battery.

had this issue with turn signal as well check the front grill amber bulb. I am assuming the drivers side fender bulb is the one you have been working on. If not vise versa make sure both the drivers side fender bulb is new and the front grill amber light bulb is new. Might still be grounds but this could be culprit

also, get a Factory Service Manual (FSM). It will help you immensely, not just with this problem, but many more that are sure to come. Look thru this forum for it. I think I remember someone saying it could be downloaded for free. I paid $35 for my electronic copy, and it's been worth it.
