ok so I was looking at the TJ just a minute ago and have been puzzled... Where is the transmission dipstick in the 4cyl? do you just drain it and re-fill? how much trans fluid do I put in if there is no dipstick. the second question is, is there a better radiator that I should buy, because mine is leaking from the top passenger side. how much do they usually run? should I just stick with a junk yard pull on this? please help.

auto/manual tranny? From pics i've seen around the auto tranny dipstick is by the back of the engine. I dont think manual trannys have dipsticks in general so preatty much you use a surringe or something like that and fill it up till it starts pouring out of the hole (confirm?).. my manual miata didnt have a tranny dipstick and now my manual TJ doesnt either

No info on radiator..

I think tj radiators are famous for that. No, I wouldn't do a junk yard swap. You will probably end up with the same problem over time. A good philosophy is when something breaks, it's a good time to upgrade. Do it right once or do it over.

my TJ is a 5speed, and I can't find the dipstick so I'm gonna go with the answer that it doesn't have one. where is the trans fill then? and as far as the radiator goes any suggestions on what type to get? I want to be $$ wise too, so I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on a radiator.

THe only way to get a decent raditor is to go with a performance aluminum one. They can cost big bucks but you don't see the problems as a stocker, but are in the $400+ range

Your AX-15 has no dipstick, only automatic transmissions have dipsticks. Yep, just drain it and then refill it until the gear lube starts coming out of the fill hole.

You can get a good quality direct bolt-in replacement radiator from www.radiatorbarn.com/ which has a good reputation and is pretty darned inexpensive. Get a 2-row as is in there now, it's more efficient for a Jeep than a 3-row is. :)

Thanks jerry I will look into that. These rad's arn't clamped on the top like the ones in the TJ are they? What stop leak product would you recommend until I can get one of these?

No, they are all metal so they are soldered together. I can't say if I would recommend a stop leak or not since I'm not so sure it'd help much. :)

those rad's sound good I think that I will get one this payday. another question kinda off topic for this thread but what weight of transmission fluid do I use for my 2.5L? is it 80W, 90W or what?

Drain Plug is on the bottom of the transmission, 15/16th

Fill Plug is on Passenger side, it is the highest plug, also 15/16th.

You will need a pump to get the oil up in there. 3 1/3 Quarts or untill a little oil starts oozing out of the fill hole.

Red Line MT-90 is what you should use. Available for a good price from Summit Racing.

75W-90 but NOT the standard GL-5 75W-90 that is on all the store shelves. The right 75W-90 (a GL-3 or GL-4) is not that easy to find in stores so I would go along with NY94YJ's suggestion to go with Redline MT-90, a superb synthetic, which is a GL-4 75W-90 that is available from www.summitracing.com/ :)

diff fluid

so I found the MT-90 at NAPA auto parts for 9.99 each. I'm picking up 4 of them is that going to be too much/too little? also I'm going to be replacing those axle tube seals so I am going to need to buy diff fluid too is there a specific brand I should get as opposed to others? and what axle grease.

4 is what you will need it takes 3.25:D

For the diffs get any 75-90 or 80-90.:D

thanks guys I think I will go with the 2row rad from the site jerry recommended. I did the trans fluid last night (with a great price from NAPA), all went very smooth I found the drain and fill holes easy and with the help of a multi use oil pump filled it in a matter of minutes. :D
next project will be installing the axle tube seals when I get them. any suggestion on what type of axle grease I should use? :confused:
