My mechanic told me I nee a whole new tub.

I'm sort of afraid to ask lol.

How much should a reasonable estimate be for new parts plus all labor to install ?

thank you

Why the need for a tub

Typically if tub is badly rusted frame is worse

Badly rusted frame and tub is only good for parts donor

The frame is OK, tub pieces are rusted.

I don't know how the frame survived, but it looks good.

If you can't find a 2004-6 donor tub, you will also have to change the tail gate hinges (if the donor doesn't come with them). There was a change in the hinges starting with the 2004 and those hinges won't fit a '97-'03 because of the dimple stamped in the tub where the hinge pivot it. (Prior hinges were dead flat across the back).

Make real sure the frame is sound before throwing good money after bad

Just looks good is not enough do a real close inspection and be more skeptical is some under coat has been added hiding the real frame issues

Thanks for this advice. I called my mechanic, and he assured my that the frame is in good shape.
