I was just wondering about the mpg's that some of you guys are getting. My '09 X is showing me at the MOST 11.9 mpg on my dash readout. I really was thinking that this would be higher...(and dont get me wrong, I would drive this sucka if it only got 5 mpg!!). Is there anything that can be done to boost the mpg on my baby?

Are you going by the computer readout? Have you ever reset it? Next time you fill up keep track of how many miles you drive until the next fill up. Then divide the number of gallons you put back in by the miles driven.

yeah daggo...I'm going by the computer readout. Actually I was wondering about the accuracy of that?...hmmm. Because when I first started watching it, it started at 7.0mpg and slowly crept up to almost 12mpg I've never reset it. And honestly I dont know how to reset it. Hell, does it ever read the mpg that you are actually getting on a daily drive? I filled her up the other day and for sure will calc the mpg next time I empty the tank out....THANKS!

It's an estimate, not completely accurate. It's closer if you reset it by holding the button in until it blanks out after you refill the tank.

That mpg seems really low. I average around 16-17 mpg (calculated at fill up). My computer is fairly accurate staying at right around 17. Do you drive a manual or automatic? I feel that with driving a stick you can increase your fuel efficiency by controlling the shift points.

I just got my 11 Rubi a few weeks ago. Its a stick and the best I done driving 20 mils to work is 16.9. I expect it would be a little better if I was driving all freeway miles?

I still suspect that Gearing and Tires have more to do with the wild differences in MPG Jeepers post here. I have seen posts range from 11 to 22, and can't figure it out.

I have a 2009 JKU X, and I live between 16 and 17.

I got just about 21mpg on a 350 mile highway trip back in Early December. This was on winter blend gas and my 2010 only had 4000 miles or so on it. This was done by my own calculation, not the computer.
10 minutes back and forth to work every day and I'm getting about 17mpg.
2010 2 door with an auto and 3.73 gear.

2010 Wrangler 2 door, 6 speed manual, soft top getting 19.5 in city and over 21 on highway BUT I'm running wrangler SR-A tires on alloy wheels and I'm very light on the skinny pedal. 12mpg is very low without some seriously big tires and or a lift and other mods.

Wow, I'm running the same tires on stock 17 rims. It really seems that my mpg should be a lot higher, and I'm way light on the skinny pedal too. My jeep is practially new (9000 miles), I bought it used and as far as I can tell, no mods.

light on the gas doesn't necessarily mean good gas mileage. you want to focus more on steady application of throttle. no quick starts, no on and off the gas. pick a speed and maintain it. contol your speed with a steady foot, not constant on the gas, off the gas. don't be afraid to downshift, either. sometimes lugging your engine at low rpm is worse for mileage than letting it downshift.

if you've ever ridden with one of those people who is constantly on and off the gas pedal, ask them what kind of mileage they get if they pay attention to it.

I drive mostly highway miles. I never reset the mpg display. When I traded in the 2007 Wrangler, the readout was 20.2 mpg over 47000+ miles. On my 2011, I have 1350 miles. Same procedure, never reset. This morning, the mpg is at 20.5. When I have towed a trailer with either JK, the mpg average will drop down to around 15 but over time resume its 20+ average.

The 2007 had 4.10 gears and the 2011 has 3.73. Both were automatic.

I have an 09 X 4-dr. I usually average 15-16 mpg but the past few weeks it's been holding pretty steady at 17.3, which is the highest I've ever seen it. I didn't know you could reset the computer by holding the button. I'll definitely do that and see how accurate it is. Thanks for the tip guys.

I have an 2009 unlimited, 6 speed and everything is stock. I got it with 22k miles and have put about 4k and am averaging 16.5-18.5 on the computer estimate. One thing I've noticed is that if you let your car run in the morning to warm up on really cold days it totally throws the computer estimates off. Not sure why that is, but when we had a really cold streak a couple of weeks ago I let the car warm up several times and the estimated mpg was down around 12 or 13, but in reality when I filled it up and did the manual calculations they were still 17.

Are you running an auto with 3.73? Or a manual with 3.21? You should be getting closer to 20mpg. average with the later and stock. BTW...Welcome to the Forum! :wavey:

18-19 MPG highway as per the confuser, have not checked by hand, not a great concern hence getting the Jeep, usually not much past 3,200 rpm, easy on the one on the right side. That's with 1,500 miles on the clock,,,

Uh I have a 09 Wrangler X and I dont have a computer read out..

I have an 08 Sahara auto. Driving to the cabin (144 miles) the first 100 is flatland and freeway and I use cruise. @ 65 it'll give me as high as 21 unless there's a headwind but normally drive 75 - 80 on cruise and it drops down to 18. When I start the climb I kick it out of overdrive and on the steeper hills I will shift to 2nd instead of waiting for it to shift down and I get as low as 14. I reset the mileage and mpg every fill-up.

I also have a 98Tj 3 speed auto that stays at the cabin during the summer. With 35 miles of trail riding and the trip home it got 13.5 mph. If I had cruise on the TJ it probably would give me a little better mileage.

My wife won't use cruise and never gets the mileage I get.

Auto with the 3.73.....and this forum is the best read I've ever done!! Everyone on here seems like great people. Screw facebook...haha
