Hi -

I'm the previous owner of a CJ, a YJ and a WJ, and, since yesterday, the owner of a 2011 JK since yesterday. It came with the soft top folded up around the struts UNDER the hard top, so I removed the hard top and then took the soft top out of the jeep for storage.

After re-installing the hard top there's an annoying rattle in the left rear corner of the jeep, under the black plastic cladding around the base of the left rear roll cage member. I fear messing with the water line for the rear window washer and the wiring for the rear wiper loosened something back there.

Any advice on how to remove that cladding and/or access the area to take a look?

Glad to be a member of the forum.

The answer

The short answer is: remove the taillight on that side. It's easy - take out the two screws on the taillight assembly closest to the tailgate (the RIGHT screws on driver's side, the LEFT screws on the passenger side) and the light unit comes right off.
