I never did an official build thread for my Gecko but I wanted to share a bit of what I've done to it since I've had it. Also wanted to say how impressed I am with with it.

Long story short I bought my Gecko last May (2012) and have been working on it off and on since. I'm pretty much a "wheeling" newbie and have been learning lots from this forum and others I've been meeting in person.

Major mods I've done so far have included a regear (4.88, 6sp manual), 3" lift, 35's, diff covers, ACE bumpers and rails, a winch, JKS disconnects, and OBA. I've been second guessing not having lockers and wondering what I could really do with my set up as it currently sits and no after market skids.

This past weekend I had the opportunity to go out with a few fellow WF members to run my rig through its paces harder than I ever have before. All I can say is wow. I was super impressed with how capable it is even without lockers. Of course great spotting also plays an important role.

Here are some highlights from a 7 mile trail here in Va. I'm told it is some of the best legal public wheeling we have available.

This first video is fairly edited. It was the first major obstacle of the day. I was trying to get a feel for driving over rocks that large while doing my best not to cry about all the noises as I went over them. I'm also okay with saying I was scared and grinning a big as I could all at the same time. There were several failed attempts and this is just showing the successful one.

This was the second major obstacle of the day. This one is unedited. Great spotting and me gaining some confidence after the first obstacle as far as what I could do allowed me to make it up first try.

Potts Mountain 2 (August 2013) - YouTube

This was the third obstacle of the day. It is also unedited. After watching a few people go infront of me I got worried if I could make it without damage/rolling over and decided to pass it up. One of the guys in the group laid on the peer pressure and I caved and decided to give it a try. Afterward I was glad I did.

Lockers.....we don't need to stinking lockers. :thumb:

Not knocking the Rubi owners or those with lockers. Just sharing how capable these things really are even without the added benefit of the Rubi extras. I will add that if I hadn't had the bumpers and rails I would have certainly come home with a few dents. I hit a lot of rocks with both bumpers and rails. Most all of it happened in the section that is in the first video. With them there is no sign on my rig I was even out there.

Thanks guys!

WesterM3 - next time we go you should bring your beast. I think you are just about an hour further away from there than I am. There are some other lines that can be taken with a more aggressive rig. There are also a number of obstacles that no one in our group did. Partly because they were too big/extreme and partly because we already had one broken rig (axle) being towed/winched out. Two would have made for a long day.

While I only shared a few minutes, it took us just over 6 hours to get 8 rigs end to end over the 7 miles.

Love the Wheels. Nice set up. Only place in Va. I ever went wheeling was Shoe Creek. My JKU has/had 3.73 and stock LSD I loved it. It is in the shop right now getting ARB front and rear with 4.88, but I agree with you I never needed locker but was already in there figured why not. But great looking Jeep and looks lie some fun trails.

I think it is technically in New Castle, Va. You can easily see the town of Covington, Va from the top of the trail which is about 20ish miles away.

I think I remember seeing somewhere you said you were near Raleigh? If so it should be about 4 hours from you.

Thanks! Shoe creek is fun but not much of a challenge unless you are running stock.

Sounds like your set up will be awesome. Are you also getting the ARB covers? I crawled under my Jeep yesterday to do a closer inspection and my ARB covers had a few licks on them. But they didn't peel or break which was what I wanted.

I weighed the Gecko today. Full tank of gas, hardtop on, otherwise empty (no persons inside). 5100 pounds. I honestly was expecting it to be a bit worse.
