Im sure there is a thread somewhere here that addresses a ticking noise with the 3.6 pentastar... but I have yet to find it. I was wondering if anyone had had the same issue it sounds like either a tiny exhaust leak or a ticking lifter would it is RPM dependant, and it has yet to throw a code.

ticking from where? I have an occasional tick at startup. Also have an rpm "tick" that I attribute to the HVAC system at rpm, sounds like it comes from the glove box. Haven't cared enough to tear into it to see what's causing.

it sounds to be coming from the engine compartment and it does not go away as it worms up or with the AC on or off.

My 2015 Hard Rock with a manual transmission started making a noise that sounded to me like a tapping or ticking after warming up.
With the transmission in neutral and the clutch released, it would start making the noise. With the clutch pushed in the noise would go away.

Come to find out it is the pilot bearing wearing out. I have just over 40 thousand miles and thought it was the pressure plate.

I see you have a 2014 JKU HR. You didn't say manual or auto so, I thought I would throw this out there.

About a year after I bought my 2010 Wrangler Unlimited Sport 4DR "Mountain", I was hearing a "tick" noise. When I'd go around to the back of the vehicle (with the engine running), it sounded as if it was coming from around the muffler. It turned out to be a defective catalytic converter.

Try 5w30 oil to see if it quiets down the engine

Also put some seafoam additive

My 2010 JK did that during the intitial warranty. I had heard a similar noise when I had a German car, many years earlier, and remembered that (despite where I thought it was coming from) it was the catylatic converter! Yep, that's what it was. It sounded like it originated from under the hood, and somewhere down the drive train. But, it was the converter. Good luck. That converter is expensive!!!

I had this issue with my Rubicon pretty much since day one, guy at the dealership I bought it from said it was no biggie, all Jeeps sound like that. Two years later, my Jeep is currently getting torn down at another dealer for major engine damage. Make sure that your dealer takes care of the problem.

Mine was a valve train issue and was covered under the powertrain warranty... that said i wound up with broken drake hood latches as part of the trade.

Hi COBoarder,
If you choose to visit a dealer to have this looked into further, we would be more than happy to offer an additional layer of assistance. Please send our team a PM if this is something you are interested in.

I WAS WRONG! :pullinghair:
It was the darn release bearing/throw-out bearing making the noise. EVERYTHING I read was wrong about the noise. SO IT CAN be the Release Bearing when the tranny is in neutral as well.
Got the clutch assy replaced all is fine.

The only ticking I can think of that might come from the HVAC would be a bad clutch in the compressor. You won't hear it with the AC off.

The noise I'm hearing is a very light ticking with under RPM, coming from the glovebox area, AC/air off, and in the morning when I'm leaving for work when it's quite all around.

WELL, that is what I thought but no, not all is fine. The noise has returned full force. So back to the shop again for some trouble shooting (Poilot Bearing this time I guess).
