Hello all!

The name is from accounting and finance. My job is to make sure the companies I am a part of are always in the black. I also plan on never buying any parts for this jeep using credit cards or going into debt.

I purchased a used 2015 JKUR April 2017, and have purchased the first phase of the major changes to come. For the past year I have been adding small stuff and doing the "cheap" mods, but this weekend I HAD to begin and bought the 4.5" Metalcloak Gamechanger Hi-steer kit (no shock edition.) For shocks I purchased the Teraflex Falcon 3.2 which are on back order for the next few weeks. I also went ahead and ordered a set of Adams driveshafts and a Fox 2.0 steering stabilizer. For a while my Jeep is going to look silly with a 4.5" lift and stock sized tires, but I was caught in the classic chicken or egg dilemma. I don't have $15k to spend and get everything at once so I need to start somewhere, and this was my logical starting point.

This was the jeep the day I purchased it.

10a front and rear bumper

I didn't photograph every modification I've made unfortunately. I cut my antenna and painted it black using the same paint I used on the exhaust. I made the front and rear grab handles out of black and gray para-cord and small D-Rings. I also scored a sweet deal on some 10a bumpers.

The trip that started phase 1

This is the trip that started my obsession to lift my Jeep. I've always lived in Florida. We don't have mountains or any type of crawling environment. We have mud. Lots and lots of mud. So I always had lifted trucks until I decided I was ready to dive into Jeeping. The photo below is a company "bonding" trip that I took everyone out on. The recovery vehicle is one of our company's lifted F-150's. I was stuck in the mud and swore that it would not happen again. So I began my journey to 37's. This is where I am at this point in time. I've ordered the 1st phase of the build. I will upload pictures as my build progresses.

1st thing I did was mute all of the chrome around my jeep. I used black Plastidip to blackout all logos and key holes. I also blacked out the exhaust using hi-temp spray paint. Cleaned up the Rear diff while I was at it
What is this Plastidip that you speak of? Looks nice.

Metalcloak Delivery!

The 4.5 inch Game Changer with Rocksports shocks just arrived. I switched my order to the Rocksports and cancelled my Teraflex Falcon 3.2 order. I still have a long way to go with my build and I thought it would be better to spend the $900 difference between the two shocks on other mods. I went ahead and added the Chromoly Dog-Legged Tie Rod to the Metalcloak order as well.

This weekend I will be building a 6'x30" movable work bench for me to lay parts across. Then I'll install the two Adams Driveshafts I've ordered along with adding the wheel spacers. The lift install is still a few weeks away. This is my DD so I need to make sure I have time to finish once I begin.

Setup for spacers and drive shafts

This weekend I tackled installing the front and rear adams driveshafts (1310) as well as adding the wheel spacers. I built a 6'x2' movable table to put parts on while I'm working and organize everything. Below is a photo of what I initially thought needed to do the job... by the end of it I had double the amount of tools out.

I started with the wheel spacers. They were obviously easy to install. I didn't take any photos of the install process, but I do have a before and after to show. Nothing has changed in drive-ability, it is simply for looks and to clear for the lift.

Front Driveshaft installation

I removed and installed the front driveshaft before moving on to the rear. I wasn't sure how long it would take and since this is my daily driver I didn't want to be without my vehicle. Everything is straight forward and simple in theory. In reality, I had a few issues. The front driveshaft attaches to the front yoke by 4 grade 10 bolts. I was able to remove 3 of them with relative ease, but the last bolt was an absolute bear. I recommend using a hex head socket rather than a 12-point socket. These bolts do have blue locktite on them, but they feel like they have the red. The rest of removal and install of the front went well without any issues. PRO TIP*** Get yourself a 5/16 ratcheting wrench that is 12-point. The old bolts that hold the driveshaft on the yoke are hex head, but the new bolts from Adams are 12-point heads. The space is VERY tight so it's difficult to get a ratchet and socket on there. Below are some before and after pics.

The rear driveshaft was a terrible experience for me. The transfer case portion was a breeze. But removing the rear diff portion of the stock driveshaft was a nightmare. My first hurdle was the supposedly 1-1/4" pinion nut... This was extremely frustrating. I'm not sure what size this nut was, but it was NOT 1-1/4" like the other 3 were. So I had to run out and get a 33mm to remove and install this 1 nut. Of course after an hour of me trying to get it off and finally just stopping at 2am. So I finally get this nut off and removing the rear pinion yoke was also a nightmare. This yoke is on EXTREMELY tight. I finally got small sledge and slowly and methodically removed it. Once off, my diff fluid came pouring out
. Replacing a pinion seal is not a big deal... BUT finding a properly fitting seal on a Sunday in my neck of the woods is impossible. None of the known parts stores carry them, so I had to get one from the dealer... Only on Sundays all of the dealerships are closed. My town shuts down on Sundays for church. It's nice, but not convenient. So I had to drive 2 hours to the nearest dealership that had one. After putting the pinion seal in and diff oil, the install of the Adams Driveshaft was very simple. Just follow the video instructions and you will be fine. Again, make sure you purchase a 5/16" ratcheting 12-point wrench.

Took her for a test spin, and all is well. I've not noticed a single difference between the spacers, and the driveshafts which is a good thing in my mind.

This weekend I installed a Smittybilt 12k X2O winch. I opted for the steel cable since I live in Florida and I park my Jeep outside. So with tons of rain and sunshine I felt the steel cable would be lower maintenance and last longer.

Rather than use the roller fairlead that came with the winch, I purchased a Warn iron fairlead. I know it’s going to scratch and lose the black finish, but I will still like the look of the standard hawse fairlead. I haven’t used it yet so I have no idea how it will function. If anyone has any experience with a standard hawse fairlead with a steel cable your input is greatly appreciated.

I snapped a photo of my antenna. It’s the factory antenna that I removed the top ball off of and cut down to 13”. Then re-added the ball and spray painted the antenna using the high-temp Black I used on the exhaust.

I forgot to mention that I used the Bulldog winch plate to install the winch. I did not have to re-locate the vacuum. BUT I did make a mistake. You don’t need to install flanges that create a small space back in the inner bumper bolts. If you do, the winch will be resting directly against the Jeep grille. This doesn’t necassarily cause any problems, you simply won’t be able to fit a winch cover or clean behind the winch. I only noticed this the next day. That night I took the bumper back off and removed the inner flanges, and I now have a small space as desired.

Tip* The winch plate does NOT rest on the cross member. It floats above it.

Preparation for Metalcloak 4.5" Lift

After having the lift kit sitting in boxes for months, I decided that Labor day weekend was the time to install everything. I purchased the 4.5" Metalcloak Gamechanger lift with Rocksport shocks, Metalcloak Tie-rod, and Fox Adventure Series 2.0 Steering Stabilizer. The anticipation was killing me so I decided to take apart all of the control arms by simply unscrewing them and re-attach at the proper lengths provided in the instructions. While doing this I also put anti-size on all of the threads. The picture shows all of the parts in the kit laid out on the 6' rolling table I built.

Quick Story about what I'm working with

The week before Labor day, my wife was pulling into the garage, and before the garage door had reached the top, she zoomed into the garage. This caused the door to not only fall off the tracks, but destroy the top and bottom panels. The garage door was an fiberglass insulated door. I never liked it, but didn't plan on replacing it so soon. What this meant was that I had to do my entire lift project in the driveway rather than my roomy and covered 3 car garage. To make things worse, because the door was so badly destroyed, I had to close it without the ability to open it. The rollers are no longer functional so if I do anything to the door, it has to be for replacement only.

To compound the frustration of not having my work space that I enjoy, I live in Florida. Over this weekend I had to stop 5 times to pickup all of my tools and move them back into the garage through the 3' side door and clean them off since they got wet from the rain. Unfortunately rain isn't the only issue in Florida. I also do not have any trees in my driveway to block the sun. So the only way I could work on my Jeep, was to have the sun beating directly on me.

All that to say... I love my Jeep :iamhappy:

The lift with stock wheels and tires

I successfully installed the 4.5" Gamechanger lift and Fox Steering Stabilizer. It took me a total of 18 hours. This includes the prep the night before, and the rain interruptions.

NOTES:

The bolt pictured as "E" on the flip kit bracket is not the same bolt provided in the kit.

I didn't have a 7/8" drill bit, so I used a step drill bit from Harbor Freight that had the max size as 7/8". It worked perfectly and only cost $3.99

To install the steering stabilizer length, move the wheels driver to the extreme, then just let out the full length of the stabilizer and mount it there.

Nice progress on your build Jonathan:thumb: I know you mentioned building towards 37's, what are considering for front axle upgrades? Keep up the great work!
