Noticed a puddle of fluid under the Jeep this morning. It wasn't oil and I just took it to the dealer. It has 18,000 miles on it and the service advisor said that it is the rear main seal. He said this is a common repair and takes 3 days.
Is this really a common thing?

My 2012 have to get it replaced, was told playing in dirty water was most likely the cause...it just happened to be a few weeks after playing in the bog at lake mac.

did you play in any deep water?

Did I ever. Went wheeling a few weeks back and the water was up to the headlights in some of the holes we hit.
I don't see how water would have caused this - but then again, I'm no mechanic.

??? Sorry, rear main seal. I had 3 rear main oil seals replaced in my 2012 JKU, and it's is 100% oil that leaks. You are talking about the rear main "oil" seal correct? Between engine and transmission. All mine were done under 31,000 miles. Jeep got traded for my new 2016 Willys.
