We road trip every year from AZ to a trail few know but has become better known.

Dusy Ershem; trail is 32 miles of high Sierra starts at 8200 feet and most is 9,000+. Trail is rough so most groups will average from 1 mph to 1.5 or less if they have issues. So its three days on point if you set camp and break it down every day. We tend to be there 5-7 days to camp more. 35s min and locked. Winch may still be needed. The total loop fuel to fuel is near 100 miles. We have a AZ group set for this year as well, everything goes as planed. Trail if it opens on time is Aug 1st and it closes last day of October. No one runs a Jamboree here like Rubicon, its remote not a fun place to have a issue. No one maintains it as well so it gets harder as well each year. Amazing place with huge granite domes, lakes, meadows and Rocks.

1st day about 8 miles in trail is moderate to the switch backs the start Thompson's Hill. Its about a mile up and the slew of rocks that get larger. If your going to break it this will be where many do. Jeeps are heavy packed on that first day.

second day and why its slow going

The Bearded man looks like Jesus?

last year our 3 jeep crew. End of the trail. still 30 miles from a town.

Driving up Chicken Rock slab.

Our JKR if we get to run it this year will be its 9th running of that trail. Of all the trails we run this one has that feeling of being deep in Mirkwood. An adventure where any issues half way can be many days added.

Edit: I just realized the rules say the photos were to be from last year. The above are from several years ago. I withdraw.

This months topic hits hard, because memory lane is often difficult to travel. I lost my Jeeping buddy last fall. Marla, a rescue husky, was a real friend and loved a good adventure. My submission includes two very different seasons at one place. The Jeep is the best way to get to the lake! I even use it to transport my ice house out on the hard water.

I'll throw a couple of screen grabs in from Bloody Jersey Hill at Wildomar OHV last February.

Full video is available at
and Jeep starts at about the 9 minute mark.

I went out to meet a friend with a new Bronco. We ran into the group filming you tube videos and they asked if they could film me trying Bloody Jersey Hill. I decided to winch about 5 feet near the end due to soft rut and getting a little twisted. Honestly, I was getting a little tired and hungry!

I need to make some more Jeep memories, maybe some snow wheeling this weekend?

No whining now...
