3.5" lift with stock driveshaft?

I met someone this weekend who was running a 3.5" rubicon express standard coil lift with their stock driveshaft. Now I know under full droop it will rub against the exhaust but this guy said he had no issues. Anyone else here run their stock ds on a 3"+ lift? Any idea how long before you will need to replace it?

I am currently running a 2" spacer lift on 33's with a magnaflow exhaust but want to move onto a 3.5" rubicon express lift being that it comes with an adjustible track bar and I like the height. (Looking to upgrade to 35's in the future and rather get the height I want now)

I travel about 5 miles a day for work and occasionally wheel on the weekends. Just looking for a second opinion!

I would go up to a 2.5 lift and will not have to worry at all about drive shaft issues as well as steering.
The t/f 2.5 coil lift is a great kit and more then enough room for 35's

I am running a 3.5 lift now and going to be switching to the 2.5 t/f very soon.
Running JKU coils on my 2dr with a 2.5 spacer in front and a 2" spacer rear for a total 3.5" front and 3 rear for over 2 years with no DS problems yet. I'm sure the day will come.

Any idea how much more lift I will get with a 2.5" TF lift compared to my 2" coil spacer? Will it even be noticeable?

Might sound like a stupid question but I heard many people net more lift than actually adverstised. I just want to know I won't be wasting money for an extra .5" of lift.

Here's a pic of my current setup:

I am running a 3.5 Rubicon Express with 35s and gas bilstien shocks. Did that guy install the exhaust extension and still rubbed? I have not fully extended mine yet on a trail so that concerns me. On my 2015 JKU with Mikey Thompson 315 17 12.5 I got right at 79". Now that is from the next to last bar for soft top which is the highest I think. I know cause when I got home from the lift I had my wife on a stool with a flashlight making sure I was not going to hit the roof of the garage door opening.....lol I had 3/4" to spare. It was a little intense for a second lol

This is true prob going to end up around 3 inches. Any thing over this is where you will need to start thinking about your steering and D/S issues. Some people have no issues for years and some people have issues the very next day after the lift its a gamble.
If your going for the super aggressive look go with the same 2.5 t/f lift the 35 inch tires you want and some flat fenders this will give you a great look.
If you search the forum you will find alot of people run this set up on there 4 door jku.
You could also do a 1" body lift along with the 2.5 suspension lift to give u some additional flex around the fenders if you don't want to trim them.
m.o.r.e. Makes a nice BL. I have the RC 1.25" BL. Personally, I'm not crazy about trimmed fenders.
it is not just lift height that determines how long before the front ds goes bad. disconnecting the sway bar with longer shocks is when the problems will start to occur more quickly. just get the exhaust spacer at the same time as the lift, once the lift is installed have a look at how close it is. if you plan to wheel it and disconnect just install the spacer knowing you need it.

Perfectly said
Get underneath a Jeep with a 3.5" lift and see how there is some but limited clearance between the boot and exhaust crossover shield. If you keep the flex to a minimum it could last longer. The other thing to consider is operating angle, the CV joints are not designed to operate at large angles continuously so they may eventually fail. Unlike the first, this second form of failure can offer no warning.
I've got about 25k on my drive shafts now with a 3.5in lift (netted about 4in.). I did the exhaust spacer & rear upper control arms. Nothing rubs & my drive shafts are still fine & I disco all the time. I went into it knowing the drive shafts could go at any time, I just keep an eye on them.
I'd definitely do an exhaust spacer. Just took my 2.5" lift off this weekend, and with the Jeep on the lift and suspension at full flex, the driveshaft was sitting on the crossover pipe. Not that you often get to full front droop on both sides, but if it's close with a 2.5" lift...

When picked the Rubicon Express 3.5 lift I asked a lot of questions. Even at the dealer to make sure they were mod friendly. I did include the exhaust space as I thought it was necessary. I asked about Ujoints etc and the DS nor the CV joint was mentioned. Now I am concerned. Mine is a 2015 JKU sport and my DD. What should I change or install to ensure I don't have any issue with the DS or CV joints. I am in GA and the trails I have access to are basically forest trials and I highly doubt I would do rock crawling with a DD. That is of course until I pay it off and get a second ride. Thanks for the advice.

Then he's not flexing anywhere near its potential and/or the RE kit isn't a true 3.5 kit after armor. I have a Metalcloak 3.5 and I already tore my boot with mild flexing, even with exhaust spacers. I knew I'd need to replace the DS at some point, so not really a big deal.

What.
You have to take a lot of what is constantly regurgitated on this forum by people with no real experience with a grain of salt.
You constantly read on here you need axle gussets and sleeves, 5.38 gears and an exhaust spacer or different driveshaft to run a 3.5" lift and 35" tires. 99% of the time none of that is needed, go check out AEVs forums, they build JKs day and day out that sold through and warrantied by Jeep dealers and do none of that with their 3.5" lift.
That really depends on how you use your jeep and which shocks you have. My front driveshaft lasted awhile with the exhaust spacer but ripped the boot during a Moab run so now I have a Tom Woods up front. I am running a 3" Synergy lift so the jeep is right at 3.5 and I have the 4+ Rancho shocks for longer droop.
Too many variables. I usually say run them until they die. Just be ready if it's your daily driver.
So are you saying a 3.5 lifted DD should see none of these issues with light trails and no full extensions? Or since I lifted it there is above normal wear and tear no matter what and should expect DS, u joint and CV joint issues down the road?
