As winter nears I've decided to forgo snow tires on my car and use the Jeep as my winter DD. Currently running 285/70/17 KM2's on AEV Pintlers, no lift., 4.10 gearing. I'm thinking about moving to Duratracs for the winter as they are undoubtably better in light to moderate snow. My KM2's weigh 59 lbs and the 35" Duratracs only weigh a pound more at 60. Am I crazy to think that I wont see a noticeable dropoff in acceleration and they might actually be quieter? I know I could just go with 33's but what fun would that be? :rolleyes: From reading it seems I can pulloff the 35's (actually 34.4) without a lift for daily driving on my Pintlers. Thoughts? Any input appreciated!

My Duratracs in that size actually only measure 33 5/8" once loaded @ 32psi, so you just might be able to pull it off as long as you're not doing any crawling... and yes, they are VERY quiet.

I just took the stock KM2's off my new Rubicon and replaced them with 315/70/17 Duratracs on AEV Pintlers AFTER I added a 3.5" AEV lift. But out of curiosity I threw the new wheel/tire combo under the stock rig and made a lap around the block before adding my lift and it was ugly. I could not make a complete turn and any minor dip in the road also caused rubbing. That said, my Duratracs are much quieter and the ride is smoother, especially with the new AEV suspension.

i went from the KM1s to Duratracs, and finally had the opportunity to run em in the snow with the latest Noreaster.. and let me tell you, these are the single best tires i have ever... EVER run in the snow. Im an avid skiier, and have been chasing snow storms for as long as I could drive and have logged plenty of hours driving in the snow. The duratracs really, really surprised me as far as how well they bit and displaced even the soft slushy stuff.

You will not be sorry as far as snow tires.

That's not the answer I was hoping for :nonono:
It sounds like I need at least some type of lift to make this work. I really don't want to raise the driving height much further as my wife and kids already has a hard enough time getting into the Jeep with the 33's and no lift.

What springs do you have? I had 14s and 55s and changed them to 18s and 59s, I gained about 1.5" in the front and 3/4" in the rear, might be enough to fit the larger tires, I also running 285/70/17s and they seem to have a lot of room.

I'm bumping this old thread.

Looking to see if anyone has a total weight of AEV Pintler with 315 Duratracs.

I love the Duratracs, and my current setup isn't bad at all.

However, I'm sitting here with 5 Rubicon stock wheels and tires thinking if I can sell them and sell my current combo, I can go with the pizza cutters on a hub centric wheel.

I do want to keep the weight as low as possible while not giving up too much on the tire's capability.

Also considering the GY kevlar tire.

Any thoughts or input? (FWIW, I don't have C's gusseted yet)
