To build a 318 is a waste of cash in comparison to building a 5.3. The 350 has 50+ years of aftermarket support whereas the 318 HAS about the same amount of options, your looking at an exponential increase in cost over a comparable 350 in terms of power/reliability. There's a reason 80% of the 318's made found their way into boats going into the 70's. They make better anchors then the Chevy blocks did.

By all means go for whatever build you want. I myself axed the plan for a 318 superbee swap when I started comparing build costs to the numbers coming out at the flywheel. So I converted it to marine and now it's in gramps old glastron.

the 5.3 is a 327.. not a 350. which would be a 5.7 corroborated..
I was making a point on cost/ benefit. The 5.3 is 350 with a smaller crank. Still better off with an old carbed 327 over a carbed 318 though.

Dodge Dakota came with a 318 and a 5 speed that I believe was a AX-15 some were actually 4x4. You could also consider a 5.9 with a carb. I am considering that swap.

The 5.3 and 350 are completely different motors. But I catch your drift.

If you swap a 5.2 in, that's a waste. You want to gain 40 hp for a couple grand?
