Ok, so I finally got around to installing the throttle body from a 4.0 cherokee this weekend. I don't have pics up yet, but i will. Right off the bat, my jeep seemed to idle a little smoother and it seems to run better when it's cold. as far as performance, i have noticed better throttle response, especially in the low end of the rpm range. my first trial run on the road was up a hill that i normally have to drop to 3rd in, but i keep it in 4th all the way up. my highway acceleration is better and i can actually keep my speed going up hills!! for the $50 i spent on the TB, it was well worth the investment.

did you get this idea out from a article? does it help out with your m.p.g. or anythig else. i have a o1 sport and it runs nice. what would be the benefits for this swap.

I don't remember, and am too lazy to check, do you have the 4.0L in your truck or the 2.5?

You wouldn't see any (maybe very nominal) gains in your Jeep because you already have the 4.0L throttle body on your 4.0L engine... That's why I was asking what engine it went on, I was ready to head to the pick 'n pull to get one for me too! They do make larger bore throttle bodies for the 4.0L though. I think Rubicon Express is where I saw them. I think the price was a little steep for me (~$300 I think) so I will just live with the lack of horsepower.

ya, i noticed they sell ones that have a larger diameter istead of the stock one. that's why i was wondering if the one from a cheroeke was different. i have the 4.0 in my jeep all ready and with some basic mods it seems pretty perky right now. it's just i like to tinker with it.

I saw somewhere on the net where a guy in australia bored out his 4.0 tb with a drill press. Actually pretty interesting. Cant remember what the site was and I'm lazy...

Do you know the name of the guy? Or the website? Or the technique? Or do you have pictures of the process? (We really like pictures here at WF, saves us from having to read!;):D)

I too have done the 4.0 TH upgrade on my 2.5. Personally, I like the upgrade for WOT (wide open throttle). I have not noticed any difference at lower RPM's, but I can now remain in a higher gear than before when going up hills at speed.

Mine came off of an XJ, unsure of the year. I would think that any 4.0 TB should work. You will have to switch two thingys (official term) on the 4.0 TB to make it fit, but not a big deal. It's set up that way so they cannot be inadvertently installed on the wrong engine.

i'm actually going to be boring out my intake manifold to fit the 4.0L TB. I have the 2.5l and the 4.0 TB doesn't really do anything. I never noticed any difference in MPG but noticed that with the TB and airaid spacer a better throttle response but no more horsepower.

Well no pics sorry, but he used a Drill press. If I was doing it, which I'm thinking about doing it, I would just use a sanding drum on a drill press. start with 40 or 60 grit. Once you get it close, move to 150 grit then finish with 400 or 600.

I did the 4.0 tb swap onto my 2.5. I enjoy it :punk: Little bit better as far as acceleration. No noticeable gains in fuel economy. I think I'm going to do an in depth write up on it.

This is for you guns-r-us

the one on the right is stock 2.5 and the left is stock 4.0

Btw I might be able to produce TB spacers for cheaper than what you buy them from airaid and all those others. gotta check with my dad about the feasability of it. If anybody is interested just pm me.

map sensor attachment point

well, i attached the 4.0 tb, but it doesnt have an vaccum source for the map sensor, on the side like the 2.5l tb does! if this is not hooked up, it stumbles when gassing it and dies. where should i hook this up to? below the tb their is a plugged vaccum source, but it is too big, and when i hooked up to that(with the stock elbow streched out) it ran, but stumbled a lot, and idled high. please help!:banghead:

what year throttle body are you using? I swapped the AIS and TPS it worked great. Before I did that though it idled at 4000 rpms lol. Once you get it on there you will enjoy it.
