Hi, i am in the process of sourcing an 8.8 to swap out my D35. I currently have 3.07 gears, 4.0, 5spd combo running 33" MTR's. I know of an 8.8 with 4.10 gears, would this ratio be low enough? It is cool because I can also just swap in a 4cyl D30 up front and save on regearing costs. My only comparision was my 99 tacoma, i went from 4.10's on 31's (auto, V6) to 4.88's and 35's and it made a huge difference. I might eventually go to 35's on the YJ but not for a while.

I would say save your money for now and keep the 4.10s If you go to 35's then Maybe consider going to 4.56 or 4.88's.

Thats what I plan to do, the 4.10 8.8s are a little harder to find than 3.73s but they are there. and like you said the 4cyl 4.10 d30s are all out there. should be like 500 bucks or less if your lucky. which is less than the cost of a regear. Its a brilliant idea isn't it.

Well, a SOA isnt in the works for me because i already have the RE 4.5 lift springs. With a SOA it would be to tall. But i hav thought about it, the added clearance would be nice.

That's exactly what I plan to do also. It currently has 3.07 with 33's so 4.10 will be an improvement. At the same time I replace the axles I'm going SOA.
