I just replaced mine with a reman. Got it from a local parts store/distributer, not Autozone, Orielly, or Advance but a home town local guy. Engine cost $1480.00 and came from a place called Midwestern Engine Manufacturing has a 3year 36000 mile warranty I paid no freight charges and of course changed clutch pressure plate, oil pump, fuel pump, water pump, thermostat(already had new radiator), hoses, belts, sending units, and had flywheel resurfaced. Total cost for that was about $1950.00. I had no labor charges as my brother-in-law did all the work . My guess on labor from what I was quoted here in MS would be about $700. Don't know where you're from yours could be more.
Best advise I can give is shop around. Talk to mechanics find out whose engines they have used and how they hold up. Get quotes from everyone you can find. Watch out for high freight charges and low warranties. Use a mechanic you trust. Or your brother-in-law. Hopes this helps...........Tom
I got mine from a local shop called Cylinder Head Specialists for about $1600. I got $300 back from the core charge. A friend of mine installed it for me. The whole thing plus exhaust, tranny work, Weber card and other sundries probably set me back about 3000.
