first off I am new to this whole lifting thing and have a lot of questions sorry. I was going to get a rough country 4" lift but all I hear is bad things about the leafs and the shocks, I was only getting it because its super cheap, but I was looking around and found a 4" lift from national wheel and tire

87-96 JEEP YJ 4 INCH SUSPENSION LIFT KIT SPECIAL @ NTW
and was wondering if anybody ever heard of this and if so if its any better than a rough country kit and also I have 31x10.50 is that going to be crazy to run with a 4" lift and if I was too put on 2" shackles I should run like 33x12.50 would be ok ? I use it as a daily driver only local and for offroad, when should I regear it. If any of you can help with just a part I would appreciate it. And if you have anything to add to help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

Rough Country's springs used to be crap. Their new generation springs are doing okay. If you go Rough Country, buy the upgraded shocks. Well that's what I've been told. :)

I just put on a RC 4in lift. I like it so far. Tell us what engine you have and if auto or stick shift,

I have had the RC 4" lift for about 2 years and I am very happy with the performance and customer service that RC offers. Go for it, you will be happy.

thank you all I was iffy because I heard its a stiff ride and i have a 4 cyl. 5 spd manual swapping to an old cj7 6 cyl. with a 3 spd manual that a friends giving me.

I started with the nitrogen shocks and was not really happy. I went with hydraulic shocks later and the ride was much better. Also, to make the ride better, I would not worry about installing the track bars. They will cause a more bouncy/rough ride. If you leave them out, you will be much happier.

ok thank you for that information im going to install it around christmas depending on how the 6 runs and how the 3 speed works

Don't you need the track bars for a more stable ride or something though? Like for highway travel? Jeep wouldn't of put them in there if they didn't do anything :/ This is what always gets me confused.

With the leaf spring suspension, each side of the axle is attached at 2 set points that do not move with suspension movement. On newer systems, like the TJ with coil springs and control arms, the arms have the potential to move side to side along with up and down motion. The track bars are there to keep the axle centered under the Jeep.


The CJ model Jeeps only had sway bars attached at the front of the vehicle, track bars came into play on the YJ due to higher restrictions for safety and roll over concearns. Without the track bars attached on a YJ, you will get a little more body roll, but nothing that is not managable and one quickly gets used to it and it becomes second nature to be prepared for it.
