I tried my 4 wheel drive today in some mud all did it was make really loud grinding noise could this because of low fluid or is my transfer case screwed? The actuator is broke but I asked someone from just jeeps and he said to find away to keep it locked in place and it should only work when I switch the transfer case in gear

it works off of vacumm disconnect at the front passenger side axle.. a shift fork gets moved over and locks the inner and out shaft together.. you can lock it in place with a few washers and bypass the stock system. Now if the t-case it self is making bad sounds.. check the fluid level first and go from there...

This is going to sound stupid but how do I check the fluid in the transfer case. Also if I lock the fork into place does the 4x4 light come on also Whitch way does the fork have to go to have the 4x4 locked in?

There is a quick and very easy way of doing the 4 wheel drive mod, it can be found on here at this thread had the same problem, am not a master mechanic and had just some hand tools and was able to do this in a mater of 15 minutes once I got up the nerve to try it. Was well worth it.http://www.wranglerforum.com/f8/vacuum-shift-motor-inexpensive-fix-87568.html
After you do that do this http://www.wranglerforum.com/f8/how...assenger-solid-axle-shaft-upgrade-138722.html and your light will work only when in 4X4. The fork moving on the axle halves is what is making the light come on now. Your not actually in 4X4 until you shift the transfer case
