This is the final hurdle for the planning of my YJ Hemi conversion, and is probably the most difficult. I'm working on getting a 5.7L Hemi out of a Ram pickup into my YJ. This can be easily done to Jeep TJ Wranglers because Teraflex offers a plug and play harness to match the Hemi's PCM to the Jeep TJ harness. However, they have not developed such a harness for a YJ.

I can still drop in the Hemi, but I'd have to use their "Hot Rod" harness which offers no function to the stock YJ gauges. Teraflex mentions something about older style "twisted pair" wiring in the gauges of 2001 and older Wranglers as being the reason for this.



Can anyone give me some advice on how to go about fabricating my own wiring harness, and would it work? I was thinking I could get wiring schematics from each a manual shift Hemi Ram and a manual shift 95 YJ and analyze them to see if anything can be done. I don't have much experience with wiring harnesses or PCM's, so any info you can give me will be a great help. Thanks :)

Sounds like quite the project. I'm sure this has been done somewhere. I'll check some other forums and see if I can find anything.

It'll be killer when it is done. Have you tried talking to the folks at Painless wiring. They may have what you are looking for or at least something that you can adapt. It would probably easier to adapt a harness than to start from nothing.

It'll be killer to say the least. I won't be able to get the project off the ground til next spring, but I plan to take pictures and document everything. Once I find the cheapest and easiest solution in which everything works I'll have something for others with YJ's to go off of.

Thanks for the info, I'll keep Painless wiring in mind.

sounds like it is going to be nice.i am starting my conversion next week and am haveing the same problem.I have a 1992 jeep wangler with a 4 cyl am pulling it out an installing a L98 tpi out of a 1985 corvette with the ax-15 trans and 8.8 ford rear end.Have all the part the only thing that is holding me up is having to convert the factory harness of the L98 and the jeep i have wiring daigrams but it is the a maze.i was hoping to find someone that has done the LTI or something like that and maybe has married the harness and could help.

Hey, Im currently undergoing this feat myself. L98 TPI from 88 IROC Camaro, 4l60E tranny, Dana 300 , D44 and 14 bolt rear with XJ leaf stretch front and rear. I contacted a guy at this website...Centech Online Wiring and Automotive Accessories.
He told me they can send you a custom wire harness to work with the engine, along with an "adapter" that plugs the engine harness into the Jeep dash harness at the firewall connections (around the brake booster). He said the cost was somewhere around the $350 + range. Hope this helps you out...

Oh, and if you get to this before I do, PLEASE let me know how it goes. Im still at the getting all the parts welded in and not quite ready to wiring yet.

Good luck sclose55. Yeah I would have mine done already but i ran into a snag. I was replacing the oil pan on the engine (craigslist bought) and when I dropped it, the guts fell out. Bearings were shot, and there was rust and water. Ended up being an engine rebuild. Funds went to the cleaning and machining ($450), the rebuild kit (320$), and getting the heads cleaned and threaded lifter studs installed (150). Alot more than what I planned on spending on the engine. When I get mine mounted, I plan on doing my "build thread" for the whole engine , intake, and jeep build at the same time. Keep me posted.

i talk to centech today and they told me that they do no wiring for 92 and newer jeep yet.so back to drawing board if i hear of anything i will let you know please do the same .

Couldnt you just run the factory hemi harness for the engine controls and run aftermarket gauges in place of the stockers? They'd be a lot more reliable, thats for sure. Likely be cheaper than getting custom harnesses made, etc. Just an idea. Ought to be a cool swap.
