Let me just say that your average audio specialist doesn't know squat about the wrangler's 7-speaker package. First, they said that 6 1/2's wouldn't fit in the soundbar.... they did. Second, they massacred the speaker set up because they didn't recognize(and I didn't know) that the head unit has a built in amplifier for the center console sub. So, when I bought a new head unit, they didn't even have it hooked up. Third, they convinced me that they could make a few "modifications" so that it would work.. it didn't. So, I had them put everything back the way it was and left pissed off. I do like the way the Infiniti Reference sound in the soundbar though. Here are my questions for anyone with answers: 1. Does anyone make a head unit that will replace the one I have that powers the sub? 2. Should I get rid of that sub (I just blew it) and get something else in the back? Keep in mind I actually use my "trunk" 3. Do you guys prefer the 5 1/4" in the front or are they making decent 4 x 6" now? 4. If anyone has a nice sounding system that hides away nicely for those days the top is off I'd love to hear about it.

i have 5 1/4's kickers in the front and soundbar w/ a 10" sub in the back. couldnt ask for a better system. high quality, loud enough to hear clearly w/ top off on the highway. Can thump if necessary. (and water resistant.... i hate having my top on:rolleyes: )

Hey Lev, do you run the Zooka tube of a external amp, or just tie into the soundbar?

Yeah i noticed that my center console speaker doesnt work now that i got the new head unit in. Is there a way i can get it back working??

There's a dedicated wire (separate from the wiring harness) that powers your amp. Can't remember what color it is, sorry. Guess that's not much help. I called Cartoys when I had 3 extra wires. They told me 2 of them were not applicable, but the other was for the amp. Just paired them together and worked like a charm.

I am happy with a head unit that carries at least 25Watts RMS per channel and my sound bar with 6x9's in it. I dont get ender rattling thump.. but I listen to country mostly so I dont need bumping like my old civic had. I still have factory 4x6's in teh dash, but the 9x9's over poiwer them and at 75mph doorless and topless, i can here everthing clear as a bell...

The wire nregas1 is talking about is the remote amp turn on wire. Most head units it's either blue or blue with a white stripe. I was under the impression that the head unit had the amp for the factory sub built in it. So if you replaced the head unit the sub would NOT work. If the sub amp is mounted with the sub then you can use the remote amp turn on wire to power the amp when the radio is turned on. I don't have the factory sub so I can't go out and look.

I have an Apline HU, with Infinity Fronts and rears. I also have an MTX 4 Channel amp for those and a MTX amp for my two 10in Infinity Subs. I don't really use the trunk so I used that space for my box. But you can put a nice small 10 sub and box in and get great results.

if you can find the blue or blue and white wire it should work. the wire is a remote turn-on or power antenna wire, it is usued manly for cars with a power antenna and also used as a turn-on lead.

i have infinity kappa perfect components in front and rear, audiobahn 10" 4 voice-coil sub, audiobahn amp(4-channel), and a pioneer head unit. the sub is in a box in the rear, i went with the "hatchback" box because it takes up less room. i don't see the need to go with a sub bigger than 10" in a jeep.

haha the sub unit is a built in sub and amp (80watts) in the console, the only amp in the HU is for the speakers, jeep likes to smp there speakers....so changin the HU all you need to do is connect the sub remote turn on wire! my sub blew and i'm getting it replace under warrenty!!!

1) The amp for the sub is not in the factory head unit its in the center console. You need to wire the "remote" from a new head to the "power antenna" of the Wrangler wiring harness. Don't connect the "power antenna" wire from the new head because then the subwoofer will only be powered when the radio is on.

I put in an Alpine 9883 and it works great - took a while to figure out the wiriing and the Alpine tech support was no better than your installer experience. Don't know why these manufacturers have to make it so hard - except to sell overprice parts.

You could get a new head unit with 2 sets of pre outs. I have a pioneer with a dedicated subwoofer output. That way you can run all the bass to the sub and have a clearer crisper sound out of the stock speakers (good way to save money)... I was going to install all new speakers when I got the sub since I figured that it would drown out the stockers. After it was installed I was pleasently suprised with the clarity that I have with the stockers.... Which is surprising since my sub can flex the windows in the hard top to the point the rear window will pop open and hit the tire carrier :punk:
