8.8 Flanger to Yoke swap

906 Views 5 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  OverkillYJ
I got a 97 Explorer 8.8 with 4.10 gearing. Does ayone know if it has a crush sleeve or solid spacer behind the flange? I am going to switch to a yoke instead of a flange. Apparently if it is a solid spacer I can just check the torque it has on it now and use the same amount when I swap in the yoke. Is that correct?

Just out of curiosity. Why would you change from a flange to a yoke? And the 8.8 is a crush sleeve axle to answer 1 of your questions.

Not all 8.8's are crush according to what i found a few places. And want to do it for is strength, and an extra inch on the driveshaft.
And even if i dont get a whole inch, the forged yoke is much stronger than the cast flange yoke.
Thanks for the info. And sounds like you answered your own question.
