1987 YJ I bought in 2014. Im a little late in posting a build thread but i am just now to the point i have the time and funds to build it to the picture i have in my head. I bought it from a friend of my brothers in 2014 , i believe they were the second owners, and used it as a daily driver for a couple years. A couple years ago I drove it through an ambitious flooded road(classic rookie mistake) and hydro locked the motor. Due to time a money restrictions.... to the back 40 it went for a year or so.

Fast forward to now....better job, better garage, better cash flow....so let the build begin.

Fortunately the previous owner had already done a motor swap to the 4.0 vs the original 4.2. It was in decent shape for the year minus the warped front driver fender due to a run in with a telephone pole in an indiana winter. Damage was minimal though. It had a couple couple gremlins in the wiring from the engine swap and the rust damage wasn't too bad for the year considering it's life in the Midwest, so I picked it up for $2500.

I slapped some cheapo tube fenders and led taillights on it and used it as a daily driver for a while.

Work gets slow in the winter and I got the jeep itch so I decided to bring it in the garage and start tearing it down for the rebuild.

Fortunately it is mostly stock so I won't have to deal with molestation.

Unfortunately while it sat through a winter in the back 40 the rust got a little worse. On top of what is in the pictures it has a little frame rot at the rear driver shackle mount and the windshield frame is also pretty roached. The el cheapo tube fenders suffered some rust damage as well( due to the crap paint and being a dd to a concrete plant).

I've already sourced a cj hardtop ( cracked and needs some window replacement) and full doors ( great shape and a power window conversion)
This will be a somewhat budget build with a focus cleanliness and reliabilty.

The Plan:

Repair the rust in the floor pans, body panels, tube fenders, and frame.

New windshield frame and repair rust damage at front of tub.

Replace soft top and half doors with full doors and hardtop (fiberglass repair and plexi replacements).

Source 4.0 replacement ( current motor is probably seized and not worth a rebuild) and clean up engine bay.

2.5 Rubicon Express lift kit.

Desert tan paint with black everywhere else.

Herculiner tub.

Family roll bar.

Seat covers to match paint scheme ( for the time being)

New wheels and 33" tires

Hoping to have all of the above complete and back on the road by spring 2018 ( but we all know how that goes)
