I recently bought an 87 jy with the 4.2. It is missing the power steering pump and mounting brackets, amongst other things, and finding the brackets is near impossible. I seem to have finally located them in CA, but I need to know if you tighten the serpentine with the power steering pump or the alternator. I have researched it online and it seems it could be either. When I talked to the salvage place, the guy said my jeep, with the serpentine, should tension at the alternator. He said tensioning by the power steering pump is only on the cjs according to the computer. I do have the ability to adjust at the alternator, it just doesnt seem like much of an adjustment. Any info on this to help a shade tree mechanic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
