This is the first jeep I've owned so I'm starting to figure out the love pains from owning one.

My transmission grinds going into third if I don't shift like an old lady. That's no worry I figure it's just the nature of the tranny. However, downshifting from 4th or from 3rd is close to impossible. Are there any tricks or is it time for a rebuild. Sometimes I'm even getting blocked out of 1st or second and I have to go to 4th then back to get it where it needs to be

Jeep only has 77k on it

4in lift on 33x12.5
D30 rear end (yes I know d44 project is steadily approaching)

How can I check that? I checked to see where it was engaging and thats about half way up. I then checked to make sure it was engaging completely by hitting the brakes a little while going down the road to try and put some tension on it to see if it would cut loose and it did not rev up on me or anything.

Have any other way to check?

I usually start slowly depressing the clutch while under power and see if it releases while I still have a good bit of pedal left..if so I figure it is completely releasing....also with it stopped and in gear start releasing the clutch and see when it starts engaging..if it comes up some before it starts pulling then it is probably ok..if it starts pulling almost immediately then either your slave or master cylinder is probably weak

I tried that and some other things. It seems I can get it into gear with some double clutching which makes no sense to me. Third gear just flat out does nothing good going into.

I think mine is a synchro! If I shift it around 1500 it shifts fairly smooth most of the time. For some reason if I shift against the left side of the shift gate it seems to help. It absolutely hates downshifting and when downshifting I try to completely avoid 3rd gear at all cost. All other gears seem to be fine other than 3rd
