Hi all,

As the title says - I drive a 98 SE 2.5L and it has an engine knock that seems to develop once the engine is warm and under light or no load, such as revving the engine in neutral or shifting gears at speed.

It can't be heard at idle, is worst around 2000rpm and disappears by about 3000rpm.

I suspect it's just good old rod knock, but since this is my first Jeep I thought I'd defer to the experts out there if for no other reason than wishful thinking....

So, should I start saving for a reground crank/short block or is there a reasonable chance this is something else?

Cheers,

Brooce

Sounds a lot like my 300-6 in my farm truck...rod knock...Its been doing it for the last 100,000 miles. But I doubt the 2.5's are as tough as the old 300-6 ford motors

Thanks for the input.

I've read so much about squishy lifters and other issues on here that I was hoping I'd be wrong, but really it doesn't seem to be much else it could be.
