good morning all, and hopefully an easy question

ordered my 98 TJ with the "12V Auxiliary Power Outlet" option, and checked that the above quoted line is on the build sheet, and I don't remember getting a cigar lighter, but a cap on the outlet...

...so my question is that seeing later models with 2 outlets, can anyone confirm that the 98 only came with one or the other, and is there an easy way to check?

I read somewhere here that a cigar lighter actually won't fit in the power outlet...I don't have one to check with, it that true?

thanks and any help appreciated,

rikm

My 98 only had one, but I'm not the first owner, so i suppose could have been modified.

They went to the 2 outlet arrangement starting in 2003. I have them in my 2005 & can tell you both sockets are the same & I can plug into either socket with the only difference being the one called power outlet has constant 12v while the one called cigar lighter only has 12v power when the key is on.

^ Confirm starting in 2003. There were a number of changes in 2003, the angle and height of the front seats, as well as small changes in the frame to acommodate the Rubicon.

ok thanks everyone, appreciate the confirmation

...have been using the only outlet for a GPS and XM radio for all this time, but was thinking about running a compressor and there were cautions mentioned about trying to use the regular cigar lighter outlet for that much power...and then suddenly remembered that there was already supposed to be a aux power outlet...

thanks again,

Easy solution either use clips to the battery for the compressor or do as I did. Drilled a hole in the console big enough for the outlet it now has a constant hot outlet on the passenger side of the console wired with 10 gauge wire and a 20A circuit breaker directly to the battery works great!
