Need some help, when I bought my TJ the mirrors were mounted on the the windshield frame. I want to move them back onto the doors, but something is missing. I have the door brackets but what goes inside the bracket....I guessing maybe a spring, washer and of course the nut. I know the mirrors are designed to fold if the strike an object. Went to my local Jeep Dealer and they were of absolutely no help other than offering to sell me a set of new mirrors for $400.00. Any help will be welcome.

I bought my 98 with the drivers side mirror epoxy welded together at the hinge joint. Didn't like that look so I just ordered an exact matching aftermarket mirror. The entire thing with new mounting screws was about $35 I think. Just doesn't have the mopar etching in the glass. But if I were doing it again, I would order two new mirrors from around 2004. Those mirrors fit also and are much beefier and sturdier. Don't know what they cost though.

Buy the 03+ style mirrors. Bestop has replacements and go to ebay.
