I am replacing the timing set and have run into an issue. I aligned marks on sprockets and had #1 at tdc. I didn't remove distributor but I decided to check the location of rotor before completing the install. With timing marks aligned the rotor is pointing at #4! If I position rotor at #1 the timing marks on sprockets are 180 out. Am I missing something here???? Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Is there any chance that someone set the valve timing incorrectly, then adjusted the distributor (or wires) to compensate?

'Twas me, I would set the valve timing correctly, then re-index the distributor.
