A Visual History of the Jeep in Blueprints

Hi All, I'm working on a project to document the visual history of the Wrangler brand and how it evolved from the Willys MA to the Wrangler JL. It was inspired by the data plate on the tailgate of my JL, so it will function like a blueprint for each model shown. So far I'm including elevations of the front, side and rear, as well as grill details. In addition, I want to compare apples to apples with dimensions such as approach angles, ground clearance, etc.. I wanted to get everyone's thoughts on what to include and what not to include. It's been really fun learning about the history and morphology of all these vehicles. Here's a rough draft of the poster so far :

I'm working with 12 models right now, which are the following :

Willys MA
Willys MB
Willys CJ-2A
Willys DJ-3A Surrey
Willys / Jeep CJ-5
Jeep DJ-5 Dispatcher
Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler
Jeep Wrangler YJ
Jeep Wrangler TJ
Jeep Wrangler LJ
Jeep Wrangler JK
Jeep Wrangler JL

Some of my favorite finds have been the DJ-5 Dispatcher with it's unique 5-slot grill, and the pastel-themed DJ-3A Surrey, with it's candy-cane striping.

Are there any others I should include? Also, are there any other views, details, or info you'd like to see on a poster like this? I'm curious to get any thoughts from fellow enthusiasts. Cheers!

Will you be selling it?
Interested.
Wrangler was not even a word used in the jeep world until the Yj. before that they were all called Cjs or just its a Jeep.

One thing that stands out is weight. They started around 2000+lbs had to be light for transport. The latest Jeep is over 5,000 pounds.

I like it. Don't forget the Gladiator.

Great point, I'll add curb weight to the mix. Just looked it up, and the original Willys MA was only 2,150 pounds. Thanks for the input!

I thought about this, but for the sake of simplicity and clarity, and because I want to compare apples to apples whenever possible, I chose to stick to 2-door models only. In my opinion, Jeep really needs to offer a 2-door version of the Gladiator, similar to the CJ-8 Scrambler. That would be a great looking vehicle, and I believe there's a market for it.

I'd love to, but I assume there's too much copyright infringement involved, especially with the newer models and all the logos and grills. Anyone have any insight on this?

Great tip. I hadn't come across this model before. Really interesting how it fills in a gap between the flat and curved fenders.

Wow. So many oddities in that list. I love the 'Jeep II', which was a mini-version of the MB. I'll have to do some digging on the site, thanks for sharing.
Here's an update of my progress. I've added wheel designs and a few more metrics, including curb weight and stock tire dimensions. Also added a few Jeep easter eggs around the edges. Right now the problem is the detail is so small, it looks like it'll only work as a 36x48, which is huge. But also kinda cool. Still playing with a few background colors, but I think the green looks the best:

Will you sell them?
Yes, I plan to sell them. I'm also gonna create individual versions for each model, similar to the data sheets on the JL tailgates. These will be smaller and more manageable in size.

I sent an email to Jeep licensing today, waiting to hear back. I'm assuming I'll need to pay a yearly fee based on how I'm using their stuff, but we'll see. I'll update this thread with progress.

Super cool. Not sure how you would be able to pare it down to be printable at a more standard poster size. It would be cool if you had a way to off-shoot the 4dr and JT somehow to show they are related.

Sure thing. I plan to draw other versions for the individual prints, which can include any model that people would want. If interest supports it, I'm hoping to eventually build out a database of these drawings to compare all the models together.

As for the Gladiator, I think a grouping of the Scrambler, Gladiator and the military predecessors would look pretty cool as well.

Got a first draft printed, looking pretty good. I've tried contacting Jeep about licensing so I can sell them, but no one will respond. Anyone have any insight into how the process works?

Looks cool.

I couldn't see it in your original postings, but I see it now, your JK dates are wrong, 07-18 and the wheels you have on it are for Sport models. Maybe the Rubicons in the early years used the same wheels, but I doubt it.
