Eventually yes....that keeps the crap out and grease in...without that a failure is imminent....time frames depend on use....you have a 2 or 4 door?

I’d recommend keeping a very close eye on it or get it fixed or upgraded to an aftermarket like Adams. I left mine after the boot tore and it wore (got loose at the slip joint) which in turn wore my transfer case bearing.

I planned on replacing it in a couple of weeks but would skip that job if you guys said it isn't necessary. Looks like I'll go through with plan A. Where can I find a good after market up grade?

Clean her up good and I like to use Red n Tacky, but just enough to give a good covering of the splines. Don't overdo it. You don't want excess grease floating around in the boot. BTW moving the canister over while you're under there is never a bad idea if you haven't already.

If you get the Mopar kit it comes with grease.
