Is it safe to add a chip to a 4.0 with 98,000 miles on it? And if so, what brand?

Based on most of the responses above, I doubt we'll see llzido back here again.
Jerry is correct. Someone has a serious questions and most of the posts have nothing to do with is question. Play nice or go somewhere else!

X2, I've never seen so many posts that were so disrespectful to a brand-new member asking his first question/making his first post. I seriously doubt we'll see the OP back after how he was treated in this thread.

Okay, so il add some input.

OP, our engines outputs aren't really changeable per se.

Chips only change an engines performance when at high RPMs. If you're operating your engine at high rpms, it won't last very long. Your most efficient rpms are around 2200.

So, will a chip do much to help you? No.

Just like cold air intakes. The jeep engines can only "pump" so much air through it at once. The stock air box isn't restricting air movement enough I make a significant change in power.

To add to that, you won't feel the effects of a chip around town or on the highway. The only time they "kick in" is at wide-open throttle and high near-redline rpms. Not to mention many of them require you start using 89 or 91 octane gasoline to prevent the engine from pinging.

The only reason I'd even consider adding a chip was if I was into quarter-mile dragstrip racing.
