First off, I've read a lot of threads about cold air intakes and exhausts on here. I'll tell you what I know so far and then I'll ask what I want to know and then hopefully I'll get some help....whether referral to a thread I missed or an answer here :hide:

What I drive: 2012 Wrangler Sahara 2Door (new pentastar 3.6L V6) :punk:

What I know: CAI on the new model dont change much performance wise just sound and thats fine by me (the new engine is improved anyways)....I also know installing a CAI by itself is pretty much worthless if you cant have an equal and/or better amount of airflow at the exit (exhaust) which is why I'm asking about the best combination of both

What I'm looking for: what I am looking for is a nice rumbling sound (like the hemi or supercharged american muscle) without the drone. What brands (CAI and exhaust) is the best combination for a droneless yet deep sound. Also, if possible, I would like to hear the sound at start-up, idle, cruise, AND acceleration.....not just one or the other (thats if its possible)

So far I've come up with an Airaid dry CAI system and Borla catback exhaust system.....what do you guys think/suggest?

Lastly, I do not want to remove the resonator......please

Looking forward to hearing from you......thanks in advance for your help and I appreciate you taking your time to read and comment :)

One thing to think about too is the fact that your Jeep can go topless. I wanted a better sound and went with the flowmaster 40 after some recommendations. It sounded alright and was louder for sure but once summer hit and I took the top off the FM40 was intolerable especially to passengers. Never did really notice it with the top on.

I had to have it removed and was in a rush of sorts, The original muffler shop said they would replace it for free but with the cheap Turbo Thrush muffler until I figured out what I wanted.

Have to say that the little Thrush on my Jeep is a great sounded muffler. Surprised me. It has a nice low ruble when you get on the gas but not too loud and is gets more quiet during cruising speeds which helps with the top off but not wimpy just a little more quiet.

If this is the sound you are looking for you will find nothing but diappointment in the 3.6. It is a V6 and it is always going to sound like one. No exhuast system will change that.

I'll be running a Cai in just a few weeks until about mid march as I do each year.

The Banks CAI has a very stock-ish resonator appendage molded onto the intake tube to reduce noise. Stay away from that kit.

I've used the AFE and Airaid kits both...and both sound great. But I love the Airaid kit better because you can run the airbox open or sealed for protection...your choice.

In addition to the sound, the engine response becomes MUCH more linear and it just feels so much better, especially with the manual transmission. I would hate to go back to stock.

Another choice for CAI is Volant, & they offer it w/a dry Donaldson PowerCore filter. I'm not a fan of the Banks CAI due to the muffler thing dangling off it. aFe makes a complete cat back exhaust including the Y-pipe.

The new Airaid for the 2012 JK also comes dry non-oiled and i personally like its sound better than volant......I like K&N the best but it doesn't have a full box around the filter and its not dry run so i'll just compromise :whistling:

You can make it louder and you can change the tone with muffler tuning, but it's not going to sound like a Hemi or a supercharged American muscle car. Ever.

Mind me asking why the limited time period?!
Because the rest of the year the air outside is hot.

IMO, there are pro/cons to the different set ups. AirRaid wants you to cut up your oem box then rivet it on the CAI, but may be the best choice for water crossing. The Volant is the only CAI available w/the Donaldson PowerCore filter.

No exhaust will make the V6 sound like a V8. I have the aFe set up, & I like it, but it isn't a V8 growl.
