I remember seeing a thread about this a while back but I couldn't find it, so i will start a new one.

Has anyone found a shifter that is an improvement on the factory one? There has been a few times that I have had to go from 1st to either 4'th or 6'th in a hurry. Today when I had to do it my I ended up missing both of them almost making a good morning of wheeling and shooting with my dad turn into a long morning of recovering my jeep.
I have looked a bit but haven't been able to find anything yet.

jeep and hurry usually don't go hand in hand. especially with this trans :)

I doubt you meant it to read this way but it reads like you want to shift from 1st to 4th or 6th skipping 2nd, 3rd and/or 5th. I think that is why you got the eek

I guess I better explain myself a bit. Some times I tend to put myself in situations where the back tires come off the ground. In cases like this I have to gas the hell out of it to keep bad things from happening. The only problem is that I am so low geared that putting it on the floor won't make the jeep accelerate any, so I have to floor it find a higher gear and dump the clutch as fast as I can. Trust me this is a nerve racking maneuver and having to worry about getting it in another gear makes it even worse.

You have AR style sway bar on that beast ?

Seeing that you have a Rubicon, and I take it that you're in 4 low with the F/R lockers on, but what gear are you in?
You can do two things. Start off and leave it in a higher gear. 3rd works good for me, or you can jump out the lockers to work in 4 high and any TC selection.

Going down hill, needing to build speed to avoid the back end from flipping over the front?

Press in the clutch.

Or can you have a tow strap attached to the back of your jeep and held by people / another vehicle to catch you if you start to go over?

Sure I could use a strap... when there are other vehicles around.

Just pushing in the clutch dosent allways work, say you are in a spot that your front bumper is on the ground if you just dump the clutch the jeep is eather going to not move or the bumper hiting might make it spin you to one side. This is what I have seen in my jeep at least, still learning something every time I go out.(or trying to at least)

There is nothing that can help you shift into a higher gear faster than the box will allow anyway. The synchros take a while to spin up and 1st to 6th or even just to 4th is going to be a slow change no matter what you do to the shifter.
