I have an 89 2.5. Recently my voltage gauge has been on the Frits. It will read extremely high somedays and normal others. I have been disconnecting the battery while the jeep is running high so that I don't destroy it. From what I understand the voltage regulator is built into the alternator, so I need to replace the entire alternator. I'm trying to find a good replacement alternator but I'm running into a dilemma. alternators from napa are under 100... And the ones on jeep sites are all 100+. Whats the difference? I'm running a few accessory lights, a CB and a radio. I'm looking to get a winch installed in the future. What's my beat option for a new alternator?

The ones on the Jeep sites are usually High Amp specialty built alternators that are brand new. The NAPA alternators are usually remanufactured, which lowers the cost significantly.
