My friend said that I shouldn't take my aluminum wheels out four wheeling because I might bend them at the bead. Is he right?

Yes and no. Anythings possible.

They aren't as fragile as he is making you believe though. I run aluminum wheels and would take them over a steel wheel everytime.

I peeled my steel wheel the last time I wheeled. Ended up with a flat it was leaking so bad. Guys at Discount tire told me alum. wheels were more durable than steel.

I have aluminium wheels and love them because they are so lightweight. Mine are getting scratched from rocks but in that sense it seems like they will take the blow rather than resist and bend. I'm a big fan and would recommend them for sure.

What they said. Steel will bend, aluminum scratches. But it takes a big thump to bend a steel wheel. Most I have seen were from hitting a gutter curb at a fast clip.

Aluminum wheels won't bend, but with enough force they will crack... You're more likely though to bend a steel wheel then crack an aluminum wheel.
