ok. i had problems before with the transmission missing a gear when first driving the jeep in the morning. went out and bought some transmission fluid and a new filter. i also picked up a lucas product that helps with that problem. put the lucas in the transmission and the problem is solved. the jeep has 72,000 miles and probably has never had the fluid or filter changed. since i already have the filter and fluid, do you guys think i should just go ahead and change them. or just wait and see what happens. i don't want to change it and flush out the lucas produst and be back at square one, but i would like to change them just to get some new fluid in there. any suggestions. thanks.

So you never changed the tranny fluid in the entire 72k? Change the fluid and add a new bottle of lucas to it... it was missing the gear because it needed new oil... A new bottle of lucas is what 5-10 bucks?

Here is a personal story: I know a "smart" person that allways said i'm wrong and i dont know anything at all.. he bought the car at 20k and at 80k the car coudlnt shift at any other gear than first gear. I was telling him change the fluid .. he would say no you're stupid.. you are wrong... So i made a bet with him, if pay and if it fixes the problem i get 100 bucks and if changing the fluid does nuthing than too bad.. so i payed for him to get the fluid changed and walla... I'm 60 bucks richer. ($40 fluid change)

I don't know if I buy into that. I have always heard that changing the fluid can do more harm than good, in many cases.

Then again, if it is that bad, you may have nothing to loose. My jeep has around 110,000 miles and I have never changed my fluid in the tranny.

I cant argue.. i come from the racing import family.. thats my first jeep but i still think you need to change the tranny fluid just like you do with the engine oil just not as often.
