Looking into putting an onboard air system on my YJ. I know somebody on here has to have a system....so where did you put yours?

So lets see where you put it & ran all your fittings & everything else!

No but a buddy with a TJ mounted his portable in the left rear in back plumbed a quick disconnect through the tub. Works great. Wired to the batt and a covered switch back there. No more open the hood and hook up just plug in the hose and hit the switch.

I used to have the standard Compressor-Tank set-up, but then I upgraded to a stand alone Nitrogen system with a high-pressure regulator, I got tired of all the electrical wiring and the N2 system has zero. Although it's not as easy to fill up, it does make up for it by having 2000 psi available to use instead of 150 psi lol. I can get you pics when I get back from work.

Sweet, yeah I really want it tucked away like maybe underneath somewhere. I plan on getting a compressor with a 5 gallon tank. I also plan on getting a set of train horns....just for fun!

Lol I used to have the CannonBall Express Horn under the Jeep's hood, then when I got my truck I moved it from there. The compressor and tank I had hidden in a tool box behind the rear seat. There are ways you can mount them to the roll bar supports too; my N2 tank is on the right-hand roll bar support out of the way.

So you use the nitrogen for your tires & everything? Could it be used for horns as well?....and how does it work?...you pre-charge it or does it have a compressor of some sort?

I have heard of the ac compressor mod to fill an air tank. Anyone know how well that works? I am curious about all the details of that. I can get a task easy and cheap, it is the compressor that is tricky.

It's a stand-alone system, just the tank and the regulator. I take mine to a welder in my town to get filled up, so the tank is always charged, and I can regulate what pressure I need for filling the tires or running pnuematic tools or blowing debris out of the Jeep lol.

It's kinda like this:

POWERTANK - CO2 Air Systems

Only it's N2 instead of C02. And Nitrogen doesn't contain any moisture so it's perfect for anything pneumatic, C02 is good too. I just prefer Nitrogen because I work with it a lot at my job.

The Compressor & Air Tank setup is way cheaper, it's just more complicated because you have all the wiring to deal with, and all the lines/one-way valves/solenoids/water filters in the system, the stand alone systems don't have any of that. Like I said I had both and both work great, but I needed to maximize the room in my Jeep so I got the N2 system, just a preference.

I would feel way better bouncing around with 150lb psi tank VS 2000psi. I have seen 2000 break and they are missles.

Outlaw how loud is that thing inside the cab?
It actually rattles the Jeep! :punk: My Wife is used to the noise that it makes - not loud, but the rumble makes it impossible to miss. You can hear the rumble about 3 Jeep-lengths away.

Nice, I have thought about that kind of setup but really don't want to lose the cargo space seeing how this is my daily driver. But it is definitely an option I'm looking at. Do you have anymore pics of it Outlaw?

I have a York 210 compressor (and still have AC) a 3 gallon tank under the jeep and the jeep is plumbed with two air fittings...one in the front and one in the back. The system take 20 seconds to go from O to 150lbs then shuts off and is set to recover at 125. I can air up my 37" Iroks from 5lbs to 27lbs(that what I run them at on the street) in about a minute and a half (it takes longer to take off and put back on the valve stem cap). The York pumps 10 cfm and runs air tools nicely along with run my ARB.

I run a york compressor as well.

I bump my idle up and I fill my 37s from 2psi to 15 in no time at all.

I use it to blow the dust out of the jeep, run impact, saw, etc. One of the best mods you can do. I know a few people with electric compressors and they always end up using mine. Unless you drop a good chunk of change on an electric compressor it is going to take a while to air up tires, as well as pull a big amp load on your alternator.

Yeah I seen an O2 tank fly through a cinderblock wall in my MetalShop class, it was horrible.

The tank on the Jeep ain't going anywhere unless its not secured correctly. Guys run these high-pressure tanks during the Baja 1000 bouncing up and down dunes at 80+ mph. It's only as safe as you make it, you need the correct equipment.
