I am trying to replace my wife's worn out parking brake shoes, but I'm having problems with the re-assembly. I can't get the inside spring on the shoes. Any tips to getting that thing on? Would it be safe to leave it off?

The spring im talking about is in the top of this picture (the picture is not my actual jeep, not even sure it's of a jeep parking brake assembly, but it's the same thing on my jeep), on the inside. Everything else is on except that freaking spring.

Yeah I bought that today and it works great on the front two springs, just not the inside spring.

Here are the actual pictures of what I'm dealing with:

Star Adjuster

Expander side (exterior spring)

Recessed hole where the spring needs to end up

Take a pair of vice grips and latch on to the end you want to hook last. Hook the first end and take a long handle screw driver or long socket extension or something like that and slide it in pry against the axle and the vice grips to stretch the spring into place. .

To remove the axels, just remove the four bolts on the rear?
