Howdy, new to the forums and considering buying my first Wrangler.

Thinking about a 2019 Unlimited and looking around at the dealerships to see what my options are.

I'm sure I'll have several questions, but the first that I haven't been able to find the answer to is this:

I've found a few vehicles that have Apple CarPlay listed as being included in the optional equipment. I know there are aftermarket options as well, but that's a down the road consideration for me.

Specifically I'm wondering if there's a recurring subscription fee for using Apple CarPlay, and if so, how much is it? I saw something on the Jeep website that led me to believe there may be, but I couldn't find details anywhere.

No fee for apple car play. You just need the It will use your mobile data plan if you do google maps and stuff (same as if you run it directly on the phone).

The subscription thing might have been for is for the Sirius XX radio, which you get free for a year

You need the 7“ uconnect or bigger for CarPlay

No subscription fee that I'm aware of. I have it with my after market head unit. It allows you to interface to your iphone much better. I can push google maps, apple maps, apple music, pandora etc. via apple car play using a USB-lightning cord and the quality is really good.

Consider a used JK if you want to get more bells and whistles for less money (although not that much less, these things hold their value well).

Happy hunting

No sir, no fees. All you need is your phone, an unlimited data plan, and a good USB cable. I use the Android Auto, and it works great.

I believe BMW announced their plan to require a subscription fee for Apple CarPlay. However, FCA nor anyone else has even hinted they would follow.

The subscription fee would cover the cost of developing and distributing firmware updates for their vehicles.

The apple car play just mirrors parts of an iPhones functions to the factory radio - maps, you can see and have it read text messages, play your playlists right from the radio, etc.... Totally free to connect it to your Jeep

True..... BMW is the ONLY car company requiring a CarPlay subscription, after the first year.

I would get the upgraded audio package with the 7 or 8.4 uconnect 4. Aftermarket options are extremely limited right now.

I will Add/Offer ... I have the 8.4" Aline w/Sub well worth it all the way around.

I use the Android whatever and my kids were home for Thanksgiving and they have Apples. My Jeep recognized everything immediately and I have to say Apple Car Play makes Android look like retarded Atari - I expected a "-" to start pinging back and forth on Android... WTF Android last I checked Pong is dead and it's the 21st century. (Still wondering where the flying cars, we were promised, .... maybe FCA got the bid and they are due shortly after the Diesel in the Wrangler arrives....)

Anyway.... I still rely on my phone when there are disputes and there are many
BUT when the phone says "I'm on break but you still owe me $$" the Dash Nav is still barking out commands like a fishwife with an eating disorder.

Life is full of unexpected drama but the 8.4 won't be sending you a bill for using your exemplary Apple CarPlay.

Yup. Apple CarPlay is great. I just wish it would work with the Bluetooth connection instead of direct wire.

There are a few $120-$150 dongles that do this. I've been watching people post about them but they do have some bugs. Sometimes have to pull and plug the dongle into the usb port. The connectivity takes 30-45 seconds at startup. You CANNOT touch the Wrangler touch screen at startup or it won't connect. They just seem overpriced and a bit buggy at this time.

If I'm going to pull/plug the dongle on occasion and wait 45 seconds for connectivity before touching the screen then I might as well continue using a cable.

I agree with that. I wonder what the limitation is with Bluetooth as the phone is connected and it should work.
