I am about to buy a set of KC Daylighters for the jeep and I have searched the site to try to find out if stone guards are worth it. My lights will be mounted on a light bar above the front bumper. Do stone guards block a lot of the light from the lights? Is it noticeable? The daylighters come with covers but I am wondering if stone guards are a more convenient way to protect the lights

They don't block any light at all. I'm pretty sure they are plastic because a friend of mine had them on his kc. The kc in the center worped some from the heat. Unless you are driving behind someone that will have stuff being thrown up u don't see the need in them. Give a look at lightforce.

I wish they had stone guards for the stock fog lights. One of mine took a perfect stone hit and is cracked.

would a stone guard of helped in this case tho? a small rock would go right through the guard? I feel as though they are more for looks than for actually protecting your lights from rocks. Think of it this way do you have guards for your headlights?

I'm thinking about getting the Lamin-X protective film for the stock fog lights. Not sure how well it will protect but thought I might give it a try. Mine got chipped too.

;) They're mainly for looks, unless your area has predominant rock damage (windshield/lights/hoods), then of course its a good idea-

Probably should getta windshield stone guard too:)rofl:)

My last driving lights came with the guards, but my foggys don't havem

There's an obvious loss of light transmission, but it's too hard to tell

X2 on lightforce... you tube it, no guards needed. I hear they got odd bulbs that might be fun to replace though :)

re: stone guards

I've had a lot of bumper mount lights over the year, but very very few actual broken lenses due to rocks.

An incredible recent event though, driving down the state highway (paved!) I passed a rig and heard what sounded like that particular *TWACK* sound a windshield makes when encountering a solid rock at significant speed.

No cracked windshield....but surprised a few days later to discover my Helle driving lights (mounted BEHIND the honeycomb grill of the Ram pickup) was cracked. The grill has spaces small enough I can't get my little finger in very far...and the mounting bracket is well above the bottom of the aero dam. The driving lights are at the same level as the headlights...so it was an amazingly unlikely shot. Nonetheless, the lens is cracked from 6 o'clock position upward about an inch.

The last time I had a bumper mount rock damaged was back in the 60s sometime.

Most of the 'rock guards' I've seen do better as a 'branch/limb/other' guard.

;) Which reminds me of a joke-Guy goes to the Pharmacy and says "I'd like to buy one condom" the Pharmacist says "Nope gotta buy three", guy says"no thanx" and heads for the door-

Stone guards are like condoms with holes in um.....they might block alot of the intruders, but sooner or later ones gonna get through anyway
The Pharmacist says "wait, why just one" ??

Guy says "I'm trying to quit" !!
