I have a 2000 tj 4.0 with an auto trans.. I have had this trans leak looked and attempted to be fixed twice now with no luck.. They all said it was the pan gasket so they would replace the gasket and for about a month or so it would not leak then it would start after sitting I would walk out and see a small puddle under the skid plate. It seems to be coming from the rear part of the trans pan but I can't seem to pin point it and tired of paying hundreds of dollars for a fix for about a month..:facepalm: it runs and shifts great, no problems whats so ever just a leak I'm sick and tired of.. I am just wondering what could be the cause of such a leak as if it was coming from a higher point what would it be? I am tiring to keep it from the dealer but may have no choice. Just wondering if any of you had anything like this or have any other ideas.

Check the base of the dipstick tube for a leak. It is seated into the tranny with an O-ring which is relatively easy to replace if that's the culprit.... happened to my '01 auto.
Worth a look.

Also check the o-ring that seals the speedometer gear housing to the side of the transfer case. When that leaks, it leaks ATF just like the transmission uses.

I had a similar issue on my 99. I had a transmission leak and couldn't figure out where it was coming from. At first I thought it was the pan gasket. After replacing the gasket and a transmission service a few days later the leak reappeared. I then took it to the shop and found out it was the selector shaft seal. After having the shop replacing this seal I haven't had any problems.

How much did that cost if you dont mind me asking...

I don't mind at all, its nice to know what to expect. I think it was around $250 but most of the bill was in labor. It took the shop 3 days to isolate the leak plus another day to replace the seal. If I remember correctly the selector shaft goes into the transmission on the front driver side above the pan bolts. When it would leak, the ATF would run down the side of the transmission to the pan and make it look like the entire gasket on the driver side and rear of the pan was leaking.

I think you could isolate the leak by cleaning the entire transmission with break cleaner (I have invested in a case of break cleaner since I bought my jeep) even on top. Drive around for a few days and check for ATF above the pan.

I am going to be taking my jeep in to a transmission shop next week, but when I went out in the garage yesterday and today the leak was just huge..lol. I would wipe it up and on the skid plate then next day another big puddle. I have not even driven it and it seems to leak more sitting?? It shifts just fine with no noises or anything. I just hope it's something not too crazy...
