Working on a friends wrangler sport, the transmission seems like it lightly jumps in and out of gear. Dropped the pan and there seems to be band material chunks lying there. Has there been an issue with these trannys?

Thanks

Maybe not an issue, as they are a pretty proven design made years ago by MoPar (Chrysler) but sometimes they do fail. Rebuilding them yourself is doable but takes a lot of patience. I've done several. The parts are cheap but the labor is high, so doing it yourself is a good budget option. If it's the electronic version, ( and I don't know if and/or when they started putting them into the wrangler) then yes, the overdrives fail and things go horribly wrong. I had that version in a grand Cherokee. However, once a rebuild shop upgrades them and rebuilds them, the issues are gone.
